Fathers have kept all the treasures of the Old Testament and made them the indispensable heritage of the Church, both in worship and in theology. The only thing they never did is this: they never kept fast to the Jewish limitations. The Holy Writings for them were an eternal and universal Revelation. According to Fathers of the Church, the Scriptures are not merely historical documents: they are really the Word of God, the Divine message to all generations.

Revelation, the history of the Covenant, is preserved in the Church. Therefore, Scriptures, which is recorded revelation, belonged to the Church, and the Church is the proper and primary interpreter of Holy Scripture and revelation. This paper elucidates why and in what sense do we still keep both the Law and the Prophets, and what can be the right use of the Old Testament in the Church of Christ, i.e. what is the theological use of the Bible.

In this article the author gives a short biography and bibliography of the works of the Croatian priest, theologian and politician Mons. Dr. Fran Barac who left a notable trace to church life, scientific and pedagogy (Faculty of Theology, HBA, Boy’s Seminary etc.) as well as in the political life of the Croatian people. It is especially important to emphasise here that he was a very active writer from the middle of the 1890’s to his death in 1940. He wrote some books and two school books. Most of his expert and scientific works were published in the church periodical (Katolički list, Bogoslovska Smotra etc.). He published his political articles mostly in daily papers (Obzor, Srijem, Graničar, Hrvat, Hrvatska Sloga). His bibliography tells us about his long term and fruitful work in different fields.

Our essay tried to outline an aesthetic, canonical dimension from the Textus Receptus of the Old Testament in the orthodox version of the Septuagint revised by the future Metropolitan IPS Bartolomeu Anania. The beauty of the world created by God reveals Him in all the uniqueness of His creative greatness. In our considerations about the Psalms, made after the comments on the Psalms in the version of His Eminence Bartolomeu, we revealed the unique beauty of this Hebrew poetry, the poetry of the Psalms being, in fact, theology in its state of musical grace as the High Hierarch tells us.

The article analyzes contracts and property as legal institutions that appear in the Hebrew Bible, which through customary and written norms created a framework for concluding and fulfi lling contracts and for the administration of one’s property. The norms brought order, predictability, and justice to interpersonal relations, and at the same time contributed to the subsistence of society. The laws of contract and property lead to respect for the Lord and to mutual solidarity, particularly between individuals who have possibilities and means and persons who are in need and on the margins of society.

The danger to oversee something in text analysis is much higher than in statistics, since statistical models can easily be controlled with quantitive models, while a text analysis which does not use quantitive models has no mathematical formula to control the theories. In other words, qualitative methods have no automatisms to detect mistakes properly, if the method was used correctly. Such a mistake appeared in my paper Tracking from Adam and Eve to the Amalekites in the 2012 Chechen translation of the Holy Bible – Where does specific terminology come from? which was published in Volume 2 Issue 1 (2018) of this journal after being reviewed properly. At first, we must be aware how the mistake could happen. The article was dedicated to a Bible analysis of a Chechen Bible.

In this article, we will discuss the aspects of morality that the Apostle Paul discusses with his disciple Timothy in his second epistle. Here we have analyzed the character traits that the contemporary Christian must pay attention to. In 2 Timothy 3:1-5, Paul has an important pastoral discussion about the future of the religious life and draws many signals about how people will be in the afterlife. We grouped these nineteen signals into 5 main categories, and they represent the analysis of the present study. Knowing the aspect that this epistle is a pastoral epistle and knowing that the principles of public life influence the religious ethos of the Christian, here we will present some features to which contemporary Christians must be careful.

In this article, we aim to examine how the Parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10: 25-37, a biblical concept, was reflected in various modern social sciences. Following the research, we will analyze the concept of neighbor and how this biblical quotient gave rise to new areas of social research. In addition to the aspect of social love, commanded by the Savior, we can see how European social psychology reflects the example of the good Samaritan in its development. In addition to this science, we also focused on Ricoeur's sociology, but also on the development of the phenomenon of social justice.

The following article is a presentation of two principles on which society operates and how they balance. The roots of these principles are found in the Judeo-Christian theology and have established fundamental relations between God and man, springing from His character and attributes. Therefore, for this reason, the first approach will be a theological one, followed by a sociological one with implications in macro-society and micro-society. The founding concept provides a balance for these principles that have determined the functioning in normal parameters, or not, of every society, of any type and any time.

This article analyses Biblical Aramaic (BA) performatives within a prototype approach. The authors demonstrate that BA performatives largely comply with the crosslinguistic prototype and its grammatical and extra-grammatical features. Crucially, although the two ‘tenses’ used, Suffix Conjugation (SC) and Active Participle (AP), exhibit similar frequency in performatives, they differ in distribution: the performative SC is more conventionalised/archaic/typical of Ezra while the performative AP is more productive/innovative/ typical of Daniel. These differences reflect the gradual replacement of SC by AP in performatives due to the profound advancement of the two ‘tenses’ along their respective grammaticalisation paths: the resultative and imperfective paths.

The author of this article presents an analysis of a fragment of the First Epistle to Timothy and responds to the basic question of if love of money (φιλαργυρία) indeed is the root of all evil. The author analyzes St. Paul’s relationship to the philosophy of the stoics in the context of the term αὐτάρκεια. Next, he presents the word φιλαργυρία from a semantic perspective. He in turn discusses the key words “root” (ῥίζα), “all evil” (πάντον τῶν κακῶν), and “love of money” (φιλαργυρία). The lack of the definite article (ἡ) by the word “root” (ῥίζα) necessitates that it be treated in a qualitative way. Thus, ῥίζα γὰρ πάντων τῶν κακῶν ἐστιν ἡ φιλαργυρία should be understood as follows: love of money is not the only root of evil, but one of many among others.

The Johannine models, which present Mary’s dignity as the “Mother of God,” shed new light on the Lord’s prayer. Luke’s Our Father contains three requests concerning human needs and two requests directed towards God, which is reflected in the first Johannine model 3+2. Matthew’s Pater poster consists of five requests from Luke and two additional requests that only appear in the Gospel of Matthew. This corresponds to the second Johannine model 5+2. In light of the Johannine models, “Our Father” was used by Matthew, who supplemented Luke’s version.

In the paper, the issue of the Lamb’s wrath connected with the opening of sixth seal in the Book of Revelation 6 : 17 is analyzed. The Lamb’s wrath is itself unusual and paradoxical, because a lamb is not an animal associated with wrath. Hence, in the biblical studies, more attention is paid to the victory and glory of the Lamb, and to His role in the salvation of human beings, as well as to His marriage supper. The present study covers the context of sixth seal opening and subsequent plagues and disasters with references to Rabbinic literature and Biblical passages. In particular, the shake of universe and horror of people are discussed. In addition, the comparison of human anger and God’s wrath was performed.

This article presents the connections between the state of being an adopted son of God by Christians and the freedom of humanity on the basis of Romans 8 : 12–17 and Galatians 4 : 1–7. At the beginning, it presents the state of the person before he or she is granted new existence and is a child of God. The different kinds of slavery that in these two fragments are presented by St. Paul and the symbolism of the young heir are discussed. The next part of the article presents Greek words that St. Paul uses to describe the state of the new existence of Christians; namely: ἡ υἱοθεσίά τό τέκνον, ὁ υἱός. The last part of this article is devoted to the connection that exists between being an adopted son of God and freedom.
