„Trzeci sens” – pomiędzy potencją znaczenia a teorią interpretacji
The reflection on the theory of interpretation described in this article is based on the text“The Third Meaning” by Roland Barthes. Analyzing photographs from the Eisenstein’s filmsBarthes tries to name a moment of surprise, which cannot be verbalized. It is possible tofind a similar moment of astonishment in every act of interpretation of an artwork. That isthe pre-reflective and preverbal level of interpretation, connected to the sphere of emotions, intuition and sensual perception. That is the “third sense” (significance), a special quality ofthe contact between the work and its viewer. The recipient is located between the direct(aesthetic) experience and (impossible to describe) cognition.
