The collapse of socialism in Yugoslavia and Bulgaria and changes of dominant ideological paradigms was especially visible in the capitals – Belgrade and Sofia, as epicenters of the most significant transitional changes. Political transformation through the introduction of party pluralism in the capitals was labeled by strong activities of anti communist parties which, by imposing a new culture of remembrance through changes in the names of streets and squares, affirmed the traditions of pre-communist regimes, as well as defeated forces and military formations from World War II. These forces negatively marked the roles of the USSR and „communist dictators“ (Tito, Dimitrov). They initiated activities for the conversion and demolition of memorial spaces (Memorial Center “Josip Broz Tito”, Georgi Dimitrov Mausoleum). The change of the names of the streets in Belgrade and Sofia is a testimony to the establishment of a clear ideological discontinuity by comparison with socialistic-era.

Discussed in this article are plays, staged by the Lithuanian Theatre of Drama during 1990-2002. The subject of research is sacral motifs in professional theatre performances. These performances are discussed in terms of the history and theory of sacral theatre. A comparison is made to relations of the current-day person with the metaphysical world and the concept of Theatrum mundi that has formed in the baroque theatre of the Jesuits. Theatrum mundi, born from the theory and practice of the sacral play in Jesuit baroque theatre, has revealed the essential mise en scene of sacral theatre - the sphere of the sacral and secular is the human, who comprehends him/herself to be in the sight of God. Mise en scene in the baroque theatre of the Jesuits has been retained in the history of Lithuanian theatre; however, only separate parts of mise en scene had been interpreted. Theatrum mundi created theatre of sacral motifs by interpreting spheres of meanings in individual relationships The plays, staged by the Lithuanian Theatre of Drama, are exceptional for meditative motifs of silence and space. The opposite poles of the sacral and the secular are considered. The fragmental experience in the meditation between God and person relations are noticeable, although the sacral motifs are not predominated in the professional theatre plays of the last decade of twentieth century. In the plays of the directors as E. Nekrošius, R. Tuminas, J. Vaitkus, G. Varnas, O. Korsunovas the distinctive motifs of sacral theatre are perceived: presumption of God’s meditation have been created in the extended zones of silence. God is not visible as in the plays of sacral theatre, but the opportunity for personages to experience the reality of invisible God through the monologue opening is still left.

This paper contributes to the strategic alliance literature by undertaking a literature review of the burgeoning strategic alliance literature published in the last three decades in the mainstream management journals to fulfil two primary objectives. First, to bring a coherent structure into the fairly vast and growing alliance literature and second, to serve as a medium for a holistic understanding of the major life stages of strategic alliances. This is done by first dividing the alliance literature into three distinct yet related alliance life stages namely the pre-alliance stage, alliance formation stage and the alliance management and performance stage, and then by discussing in detail the three alliance stages individually. The paper would be useful for academics as well as practitioners looking to get a holistic understanding of strategic alliances and its three distinct yet related life stages and the key research papers which have been published focussing on each of these alliance stages.

A retrospective analysis of the thirty-year period (1990-2020) of the formation and development of Russian gender studies is presented, in which identified are three conditional stages, characterized by the originality of the tasks solved and the results achieved, as well as the influence of external contextual factors: the first stage - the period of formation and institutionalization of gender studies in the Russian Academy and higher school, which received in the scientific literature on gender studies the name “gender 90s”, as a reflection of the rapid start of a new scientific direction in the 90s of the XX c.; the second stage - the inclusion of gender studies in the Russian context through the understanding and analysis of Russian material and problems. This stage covers the first decade of the XXI c. (2000-2009), and can be conditionally designated as the period of “transition of quantity into qualityˮ; the third stage - the development of gender in the digital age is associated with the continuation of Russian gender studies in context of digitalization and the emergence of a network society, as the main challenges of the last decade of the XXI c. (2010-2020). Special attention in the article is paid to the modern period, in which the fundamental ideas of gender equality began to be reflected in the changing Russian legislation: in 2018, the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation reduces the list and types of work professions prohibited for women from 456 to 100. This is the result of many years of demand from both international and Russian women’s organizations and researchers. 2019 - Russia has resumed work on preparations for the adoption of the federal law “On the fundamentals of the system of prevention of family (domestic) violence in the Russian Federation”. More than 900 thousand people signed a petition on the adoption of the law posted on Runet, while opponents of the law collected only 19 thousand signatures. The article presents the results and outlines promising directions of Russian gender studies, including those related to the emergence of a virtual gender space on the Internet.

It is already a well-known reality, proven by the numerous volumes, studies and research efforts, published after 1990 on this topic that the great personality and actions of Father Daniil Sandu Tudor, who has developed intellectually in the fertile and diversified environment of the inter-war Romania, still arouses debates and controversies. Researching the biography of Sandu Tudor during the Second World War, when, as it is known, he was mobilized, will follow the dynamism of the subject towards the knowledge of God, the spiritual progress, which undoubtedly corresponds to an increasingly bright ascetic work. In his endeavor to reconstruct the image of the Rugul Aprins (The Burning Bush) of that time as truthfully as possible, the author corroborated the documents from the Archive with the memorialistic literature, but also with the interview of the only person who can testify today about what did the prayer of the heart mean for the students, and also for the seniors integrated into the Movement – Father Nicolae Bordasiu.

Business incubator, established in Kaunas ten years ago, differed from other analogous structures in Lithuania in the way that it was oriented towards high technologies and innovations. Priorities were given to those companies that try to implement scientific novelties (innovations) in manufacture, maintain close relationships with Kaunas Technological University and other scientific institutions in Lithuania. After a successful eight-year work period, this business incubator became KTU regional Science Park. Activity of this incubator concentrates on the development of scientists and businessmen’s competences related to technological transfer, intellectual property, commercialization or scientific results, innovational activity in networks and entrepreneurship development. Favorable conditions in the business environment enable start-up companies to use their manufacturing and human resources more effectively and continuously develop knowledge-based business. Training and consultation sessions organized by the Park and available relationships (contacts) with partners from other EU member countries help companies to search for new possibilities for cooperation with partners from Lithuania and foreign countries.

Bosnia and Herzegovina represents a very suitable experimental space for the analysis of integrative policy in the conditions, war and long-lasting crisis, of a devastated society which, due to the challenges of history, is deeply divided. In such a space, applying the analytical model designed and used by Seymour Lipset and Stein Rokan, the paper deals with the detection of social divisions that underlie party preferences in the 1990 elections for the Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Analyzes of pre-election and post-election activities of political entities show the existence of an important link between ethno-confessional characteristics and attitudes on political issues and party preferences, which in accordance with the used theoretical model creates preconditions for talking about social divisions that have turned into party divisions. It can be determined that they are bh. political parties formed, with all their specifics, on the basic lines of Bosnia and Herzegovina social divisions. In the analysis of the relationship between social and political space and the influence of the structure of society on political relations and divisions, it is possible to determine that party divisions and divisions, their segmentation and polarization are conditioned, above all, by the depth and dynamics of fundamental Bosnia and Herzegovina social divisions. The divisions that emerged in the pre-election period of 1990 (we can conditionally define them as divisions communism vs anti-communism) were pushed into the background in the first post-election year and priority was given to the split that S. Lipset and S. Rokan defined as the center-periphery split. (or the territorial-cultural split as, after adaptation, Professor Nenad Zakošek called it). The second part of the paper presents an overview of the most important political parties in the 1990 elections and continues to examine the applicability of S. Lipset and S. Rokan's theory of turning social divisions into party divisions, this time in the first year of ethno-confessional parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Analyzing the basic lines of historical ethnic and confessional divisions in Bosnia and Herzegovina society and in the sphere of political (sub) system through indicators such as: predominant (ethnic, confessional, linguistic, cultural and regional) identifications, the relationship between ethno-confessional and civil, the relationship to the rights and freedoms guaranteed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the Constitution, the attitude towards different solutions to the state question (remaining in the common state of Yugoslavia vs. the independent Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina) tested the hypothesis that historical lines of ethno-confessional splits represent the basic determinant of political goals. It can be seen that the territorial-cultural divide (primarily in the form of center-periphery conflict) is actually a kind of complete split, given that it is a split that involves conflict between stable social groups (residents of the center and periphery but also members of different ethnic and confessional communities). In the Bosnia and Herzegovina case, these are (ethnic and confessional) communities that have different views on the most important issues of the social organization of the common state, which results in open conflict on the political scene in the form of voting for different political options, which can be transformed by ethnopolitical elites. (very easily) into various forms of violence against others and different in the territory that is under their political (and police) control.

The study examines heterotopias in three distinct Slovak films as symptoms of disenfranchisement on the part of the film-makers during the transformative period in Slovak cinema. The first part analyses idyllic and heterotopic qualities of space in Martin Šulík’s Záhrada [The Garden, 1995], while the following parts examine heterotopic spaces in debuts by Štefan Semjan Na krásnom modrom Dunaji [On the Beautiful Blue Danube, 1994] and Miroslav Šindelka Vášnivý bozk [A Passionate Kiss, 1994]. The study shows how heterotopic qualities of spaces in these films correspond with self-transformation of the main characters and how the very processes of self-transformation can serve as commentaries on current situation within Slovak film industry.

During her short professional career, Monika Potokárová (1992 – 2019) became a protagonist of the young generation of actors at the Drama Company of the Slovak National Theatre. She has rendered over forty diverse roles in the productions directed by acclaimed Slovak and international directors. She was a genuine protagonist of tragic heroines of classical repertoires, and her versatile talent enabled her to create characters defying psychological and realistic canons of Slovak drama acting. The study highlights the most significant roles of the young actress and it endeavours to define her pliability, flexibility, and the uniqueness of her artistic personality.

The article critically examines some techniques used in post-Soviet polemics based on the material from E. Abdullayev’s polemic note “New Understanding and Old Myths” (book review of Esaulov I. A. Russian Classics: New Understanding. St. Petersburg, Russian Christian Humanitarian Academy Publ., 2017) and traces the dependence of the interpretation and evaluation of the literary scientific system on the axiological views of the author of the description. At the same time, it demonstrates the influence of axiology on evaluation of philological work. The negative ideologems of the Soviet philological science and their presence in the philological practice of our time are revealed. A reduced understanding of the task of historical poetics (and poetics in general), which is characteristic of both Soviet philology and influential post-Soviet publications, prevents the construction of a new history of Russian literature and the identification of the role and place of Christian tradition in the text and subtext of works of Russian classical literature.

In 1989, breakthrough events took place in Eastern European countries that changed the history of the region. The “round table” in Poland, the fall of the Berlin Wall or the “Velvet Revolution” in Czechoslovakia initiated the processes of liberalization and independence from the USSR. Over the time, these transformations were called “Eastern European Revolutions”. They contributed to the final collapse of the Soviet regime and caused the post-Soviet area to undergo significant social, political and economic transformations in the early 1990s.A year before these events, a great democratic movement began in the smallest Republic of the Soviet Union ‒ Armenia, which undermined the imperial policy of the Soviet authorities. Over the time, it adopted the name of the Karabakh Movement. The rebellion of the Armenian society that broke out in 1988 expressed the need for democratization of the Soviet society and played a significant role in the freedom aspirations of the Armenian people. Despite this, little is known about this movement, which is commonly associated with ethnic antagonisms between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Karabakh movement remained “unnoticed” in the Soviet era, because the regime media blocked information about the mass occurrences of Armenians. Today, the issue of the Karabakh Movement is uncomfortable for political reasons, especially when we talk about Armenian-Russian relations, because Russia attaches great importance to glorifying USSR history. The main goal of the article is to reconstruct the activities of the Karabakh Movement in 1988–1990, as well as to attempt to understand its impact on the processes that contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union in the context of transformations in Eastern Europe.

The quality of education is directly linked to the quality of teachers and this mainly depends on their education, lifelong learning and professionalization. The feature of developed professional culture, among others, is the existence of professional standards. To introduce the standard, however, is quite a difficult and complicated process which requires considerable political commitment, determination and courage. In this paper, we offer a broader view of education policy in Scotland, where they reached − in a remarkably short amount of time − a widely shared consensus of acceptance and cooperation. This resulted in revised standards that were applied in August of 2013.
