The article is devoted to the moral reflections of Volodymyr Vynnychenko (1880-1951), a Ukrainian writer, playwright, first prime minister, a staunch supporter of political freedom of the Ukrainian state. Vynnychenko’s moral searches are based on the actualization of spiritual love, erotic and sexual relationships as a problem of happiness, self-improvement as the means of activating the moral principle of “honesty with oneself,” as well as the pursuit of social justice, which in general provide the exact balance and harmony the writer so sought to achieve, connect a person with other people, while maintaining at the same time one’s freedom and individuality. The logic of forming a moral concept compares the ideas of “concordism” by Volodymyr Vynnychenko and Albert Schweitzer’s (1875-1965) concept of “reverence for life.” Arguably, unlike Vynnychenko, Schweitzer sought the highest philosophical truth, first of all, to turn it into reality himself, to achieve a spiritual connection with the Universe through the ethics of reverence for life. For Schweitzer, to become moral means to become truly thinking, to do good for the afflicted is an internal need, the leitmotif of his whole life.

Attitudes towards homosexuality and same-sex marriage in the Americas and Europe have been found to be tightly related to religion, and especially, how religion is practiced. However, religious individuals are not consistent in their rejection of homosexuality. We explore how religions and religious individuals differ among each other in attitudes towards not just homosexuality, but also other policy areas they consider sins, such as marihuana consumption, abortion, euthanasia, use of contraceptives, and pre-marital sex. Using data for Colombia, we find that Evangelicals are the most reliable opponents of LGBT rights in the country, rejecting homosexuality more deeply than other sins. They thus target homosexuality distinctively. We also find that attitudes toward homosexual-ity among Evangelicals seem unresponsive to education. Because of this more pronounced homophobia among Evangelicals, we conclude that countries like Colombia that are experiencing increases in the population and levels of organi-zation of Evangelicals are likely to face increasing difficulty, even backlash, when trying to further expand LGBT rights.

In light of the contemporary paradigm of quantum reality with research on unified quantum field and energy communication in the Humanities, it is essential to ponder Pavel Florensky’s considerations on the energy effects and energy activity of language, words and space, pertaining both to arts and physics. The Russian language contains the word ènergiynost’ – a much broader notion than ènergiya (energy). In Florensky’s writings this relates to the author’s perception and sensibility for language, art and the space of culture within the integrative tendencies of Russian Cosmism, a subject that has not yet been thoroughly studied. In this essay, we focus on Florensky’s interpretation of the magicity of energy communication, as well as on the energy cognition of its participants. A sensitivity to ènergjynost’ in any dimension of consciousness in communication is being gradually recognised today by both scholars and “non-scholars” who integrate psychological and physiological aspects of cognition. The tendency is to relate ènergjynost’ to an emerging quantum model of reality.

Symbols have by definition many interpretations, but the key question of this article is: should those interpretations have limits, especially when the symbol is a real historical figure, perceived as a cultural hero. Can a popular cultural hero, in this case Vasil Levski, legitimize any messages totally different from his own writings? When does a symbol turn into its opposite? The paper analyzes the presentations of Vasil Levski in the newly adopted textbooks ‘History and Civilization’ for the 6th grade; bodily visualizations of Levski - tattoos and others; fascisoid political uses of the „Apostle of Freedom“ by the ultras of the football club „Levski“ and by the paramilitary formation „Committee for National Salvation Vasil Levski“. It defends the thesis that the limits of the symbolic uses of the cultural hero Vasil Levski are put by his own messages. Those messages assert a civic national identity, focused on republican values rather than on the dominance of the Bulgarian ethnicity.

In the Polish cultural ethos, the family as a value seems to have an established high position. It is also confirmed by current numerous studies focused mainly on the young generation, which show that for young people the family constitutes a value of the highest priority. It could be presumed, therefore, that the present socio-cultural climate is favourable for the family and enables it to perform its various functions, including the care and cultural function. It also concerns the large family, which in the Polish tradition used to be considered as a beneficial educational environment, or even a kind of a social force. However, in the modern society, which in its definition seems to be a declaration of high quality standards, mainly in terms of developmental chances of all its subjects, the large family has found itself in a specifically difficult situation. The reason behind it is, above all, the fact that having a large number of children is socially ostracized in various ways. If the value of the large family is not only not appreciated socially, but even discredited, then the consequences of such a state of affairs will become apparent in numerous spheres of social life. Most often, it is reflected in the basic decisions in the area of social policy, unfavourable towards large families. For such families it might imply the necessity of engaging in even an extreme struggle for survival in the sphere of everyday existence; even more so when it comes to decent conditions of performing its tasks and its socio-cultural role. Therefore, it is essential to define and refer to the arguments coding in the social consciousness the fact that the large family in the Polish cultural ethos occupied a high position not only in the past, but it still constitutes a significant value which deserves recognition and support.
