Биополитика на раждането: Мишел Фуко, Групата за здравна информация и борбата за правото на аборт

Author(s): Stuart Elden / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3-4/2016

This piece is an edited and abridged excerpt from Chapter Six of Foucault: The Birth of Power, Polity Press, 2017. It discusses the work of the Groupe Information Santé, an activist organisation established in France in 1972 on the model of the more famous Groupe d’Information sur les Prisons. The GIS comprised doctors, sociologists and philosophers, and its most famous member was Michel Foucault. There were many projects that the group worked on, including industrial accidents and sickness, the health of immigrants, and the struggle for abortion rights. Drawing on their publications, pamphlets, archival material and news reports, this piece discusses the importance of the group, especially concerning reproductive rights and sexual politics more generally. One of the group’s key aims was to provide people with free access to information so they could make informed choices. The piece therefore provides another example of Foucault’s involvement in radical activism in the early 1970s, though his was only one voice in the movement and it stresses the collaborative nature of the project.

Author(s): Dominik Paprotny / Language(s): Polish Issue: 03/2014

The purpose of this article is to anticipate how the development gap between Poland and rich Western countries changed from gaining independence up today. Six indicators were analyzed: GDP per capita, male and female life expectancy, infant mortality, passenger cars and telephone subscribers per 100 persons. After collecting historical data for 25 developed countries the author calculated when (how many years earlier) did those states achieved a defined indicator value for Poland. The results show that during the interwar period the backwardness of Poland increased. After the war it was steadily decreasing until mid-1960s, only to rise again to an all-time high in late 1980s/early 1990s. During the last 20 years the gap between Poland and the West was substantially reduced.

On urban safety in the occident: Some relevant observations

On urban safety in the occident: Some relevant observations

Author(s): Tom Kauko / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

Recent decades have witnessed an accelerating population movement from Africa and Asia to Europe and North America. This trend has interfered with the stability of Western urban life, thereby eroding a relatively homogeneous Western urban culture and traditional European urban values. And more worryingly, this process has also decreased safety due to violent gang related crimes as well as potential terrorist threats, mainly in big cities across Western Europe and USA. One could therefore argue that the role of urban scholars should be to question and critically inquiry this harm being caused. Therefore, this contribution discusses the issues of safety and trust (and lack thereof), amid intensified mass immigration and related security threats in urban neighbourhoods across the Western world today.

Potencijali i perspektive razvitka Velebitskog podgorja

Potencijali i perspektive razvitka Velebitskog podgorja

Author(s): Čedomir Dundović,Damian Dundović,Kristina Dundović / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2017

Velebit is not only the largest Croatian mountain but is the only littoral mountain that divides two geographically essentially diverse areas: the Mediterranean and continental – mountain regions, in other words, the Croatian Littoral from Mountain Croatia. The littoral slope of Velebit includes Podgorje which begins near Sveti Juraj where it gradually spreads and rises to Jablanac, whilst in the southern part Velebit gradually passes into the northern – Dalmatian karst plateau. The natural conditions and setting along the sea have contributed in the past to the development of forestry, agricultural and livestock production, shipping, fishing, trade, hunting and tourism. The transport connectivity of the settlements of the Velebit littoral slope with the outside world always took place via the sea, because there were no land routes or they were in such a state that they did not allow a better connection between the settled places. The population coverage of their region is dominated by numerous hamlets, 1-6 km apart and set in the interior from the sea mostly in the central vegetational belt because bare rock dominates along the coastline. Nature has influenced this separation because any settlements had to be placed where the ‘bura’ does not blow. Due to this in the Velebet littoral area, with the exception of Senj, three more important coastal settlements developed: Sveti Juraj, Jablanac and Karlobag. The lack of traffic and communal infrastructure and other necessary amenities (educational, health, economic and so on) are the reason for the large depopulation of this area which in modern conditions is one of the least populated regions of the Republic of Croatia. However, the potential values of this region point to the possibilities of its speedier development. The aims and guidelines of development point primarily to the protection of the natural and cultural resources with an emphasised need in making developmental economic programmes. Besides the development of a road network which in this area would prompt new developmental potentials with the planned measures of development, the development of economic activities (development of tourism, mariculture, nautical tourism ports, health-recreational tourism, hunting tourism, fruit growing and horticulture, livestock breeding, forestry and timber – manufacturing activities, the use of the energy potentials of the wind and sun, the development of manufacturing, trade and free customs zones and so on) and social activities in the decentralisation of the system of centralised settlements (educational, health and cultural infrastructure) should be stimulated. In this paper a special emphasis is made on the appraisal of the natural potentials, of sustainable development and the evaluation of the possibility of the revitalisation of Podgorje. To this end a SWOT analysis was produced as a basic prerequisite for future development.

Sociodemografska analiza Podgorja: od prostorno-zavičajnog okruženja do "clustera doživljaja"

Sociodemografska analiza Podgorja: od prostorno-zavičajnog okruženja do "clustera doživljaja"

Author(s): Saša Poljanec-Borić,Anita Bušljeta Tonković,Nikola Šimunić / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2017

he paper is formed like an analysis of a case based on the analysis of secondary literature and quality insights. In the paper are affirmed the theoretical concepts of the social production of the area, the region as a model of research for the defining of the developmental goal and the concept of a cluster. The discussion consists of three parts: an overview of the relevant literature, ananalys is of the existing socio-economic picture of Podgorje, and a developmental scenario of the Podgorje area in the framework of a cluster of experiences. In the first part of the paper the existing literature relevant to the understanding of the social perception of the area in the world and in Croatia is analysed. There then follows a socio-demographic analysis of the Podgorje micro-region which includes a diachronic overview of the Podgorje developmental picture, and an analysis of the socio-demographic dynamic in the area of Podgorje. In the final part of the paper a developmental scenario of Podgorje is formulated. With the systematic analysis of the developmental dynamic in Podgorje, a perspective is defined which transvalues the area of Podgorje from a "regional" environment into a cluster of vital significance for the further development first of all of Podgorje and then Lika-Senj, Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Zadar counties.

Usmjeravanje razvoja Podgorja kroz prostorno-plansku dokumentaciju

Usmjeravanje razvoja Podgorja kroz prostorno-plansku dokumentaciju

Author(s): Ariana Korlaet,Vesna Marohnić-Kuzmanović,Dubravka Šeparović / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2017

In the paper are an overview and analysis of the developmental perspectives of the orientation from the spatially-planned documentation for the realisation of the developmental possibilities of Podgorje with regard to the peculiarities of its geographical position, relief-climatic characteristics and historical heritage, and in particular the advantages and limitations for its development which result from the system of the protection of the whole region. The entire surface area of the subject region is located within a region of special interest for the state-protected coastal belt, inside the Velebit Nature Park and the ecological network of the Republic of Croatia, i.e. the EU Natura 2000ecological network, and in the contact area of the Northern Velebit National Park and Paklenica National Park.In the current system of spatial planning the propositions of the strategic documents of thespatial development and the spatially-planned documentation for the area of Podgorje on thre elevels are considered: the spatial plans of the state level for areas of special features, the county spatial plans and spatial plans of municipalities and towns, in the framework of the thesis that the role of spatial planning is the integration of different policies which influence a certain area, wherein the sustainability of development results from the synergistic development of economic, social, natural/environmental and cultural foundation of a space and society. The system of spatial planning is primarily connected with the territorial makeup. By the law of territories of counties, towns and municipalities territorial units are defined which frequently do not include the actual planned area connected with the individual developmental aspects and strategic issues of the environment. In this sense the Spatial Plan of the Velebit Nature Park will be able to perceive the developmental challenges and needs of Podgorje as a whole.

DO MACROECONOMIC DETERMINANTS SUBSTANTIALLY AFFECT UNEMPLOYMENT?

Author(s): Mohammad Mushfiqul Haque Mukit / Language(s): English Issue: 18/2020

Bangladesh is a developing country that wants support for economic growth from other countries. This is would accomplish by receiving a large amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) that leads to a higher rate of jobs. Higher jobs contribute to better Bangladeshi life while rising its gross domestic product (GDP). However, unemployment remains one of the major problems facing the world today. The research analyzed the long-run and short-run relationships between unemployment and its macroeconomic determinants over the period 1991-2018/19, including industry value-added, inflation rate, foreign direct investment (FDI), urban population growth, and real gross domestic product (RGDP). This research employed the Johansen co-integration, Vector Auto Regression (VAR) testing method, the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) to unit root. The outcome of the regression indicates that the long-run unemployment rate explained by foreign debt, inflation, FDI, population growth, and RGDP. Therefore, we propose some economic proposals that the outcome of this study.
