Agresja w ruchu drogowym – aspekty psychologiczne

Agresja w ruchu drogowym – aspekty psychologiczne

Author(s): Tadeusz Rotter / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2014

The development of horse – drawn transport, and later the development of cartage meant that different groups of travelers started to participate in traffic. The size of vehicles, their engines’ power, diversity of facilities were the first elements of the division into ‘the better ones’ and ‘the worse ones’. This division already caused antagonisms that inspired aggression. The second group of factors generating aggression are differences in the level of road politeness. These became particularly visible especially after transport has become international, when the phenomenon of culture mixing appeared. Finally, the third group are psychological causes that are attached to participants themselves. Symbolic selection in driving tests candidates (or, very often, lack of such selection) leads to the situation when people with no imagination and no responsibility sit behind the wheel. Unfortunately, it is impossible to eliminate the influence of drivers’ personal experience and personal problems on road rage. The last factor that influences road rage is alcoholism of traffic participants.

ZATVORENICI OVISNICI I NASILJE U ZATVORIMA

Author(s): Mitar Radonjić,Jelena Vuković / Language(s): Bosnian,Croatian,Serbian,Montenegrine Issue: 9/2024

Violence in prisons is a frequent phenomenon, and the cause of such behavior is severe deprivations, conflict between informal groups due to the territory inside the prison, intolerance of prisoners, conflicts that often occur between accomplices or daily disputes that occur outside the prison. However, in larger penitentiary systems, violence also occurs due to intoxicants, which are often a profitable business during the prison sentence, and which also carry a great risk. Addicted prisoners represent a growing category and population within prisons. In this paper, we want to point out the problem of narcotic drugs within the prison system, which is often the reason for conflicts between drug addicts and prison gangs, which often leads to larger conflicts. Although the formal system works to prevent introduction, suppress the sale of narcotics and punish dealers and addicts, this problem is present in almost all prison systems.

The law and gender-based domestic violence in Spain – legal backgrounds, efficiency and problems

The law and gender-based domestic violence in Spain – legal backgrounds, efficiency and problems

Author(s): José Antonio González-Costa / Language(s): English Issue: 62/2023

This article shows the history, structure, functionality and efficiency of Law 1/2004 of December 28 on protection measures against gender violence. First, it explains the legal background from which this law has been influenced and then its objectives, purpose and novelties are exposed. Secondly, it is analyzed objectively whether the law fulfils its purpose of combating violence, whether it helps to solve problems and whether the number of victims of violence has been reduced since its adoption. Thirdly and finally, the mistakes, lapses and inconsistencies of the law are analyzed and briefly explained. The purpose of the article is to show that Law 1/2004 of December 28 is ineffective and does not solve the problems of gender violence, neither domestic nor family. We also show that it is a sexist law, as it only protects women, excluding men. The most important conclusion is that the Law 1/2004 should be changed to a more efficient law that protects all victims, regardless of their sex. Also, it must change, the fraudulent use of the law to obtain judicial advantages, and the consensual or induced breach of a sentence must also be avoided. It is necessary for a new wording of the law to address from a multidisciplinary point of view.

State of helplessness of a victim in the context of sexual abuse of a person with disabilities

State of helplessness of a victim in the context of sexual abuse of a person with disabilities

Author(s): Dorota Habrat / Language(s): English Issue: 62/2023

Sexual abuse against people with disabilities constitutes a group of crimes that are rarely reported and are inadequately monitored. Most sexual abuses against people with disabilities remain undisclosed. If these offences occur within the victim’s socially closest environment, they are considered private matters. The aim of the article is a dogmatic legal analysis of penalizing the sexual exploitation of helplessness in individuals with disabilities. Attention has been drawn to the increased risk of falling victim to sexual violence due to the characteristic of disability, in the context of protection against various forms of sexual exploitation. The challenges in determining the scale of sexual abuse against people with disabilities have been highlighted. The article discusses the procedure for prosecuting the offence defined in Article 198 of the Penal Code and provides an interpretation of the concept of helplessness. Additionally, police and court statistics related to the offence stipulated in Article 198 of the Penal Code are presented in the article. The focus is on disability as a potential factor of helplessness. The article justifies the complexity of the problem, considering the diversity of values and standards related to sexual life. It has been demonstrated that people with disabilities deserve special protection, and ensuring their dignity is a fundamental obligation of the rule of law and civil society

Polityka narkotykowa w Polsce - leczyć czy karać?

Polityka narkotykowa w Polsce - leczyć czy karać?

Author(s): Bogdan Guziński / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2024

The End of American Exceptionalism Through Two Family Sagas: Breaking Bad and Ozark in the Face of Neoliberal Collapse

The End of American Exceptionalism Through Two Family Sagas: Breaking Bad and Ozark in the Face of Neoliberal Collapse

Author(s): Francesco Sticchi / Language(s): English Issue: 16/2023

This paper aims to investigate, following a film-philosophical methodology, the politics of two extremely popular North-American TV series. Thesis of the paper is that, by mapping particular narratives and aesthetic patterns concerning family-dramas and the desire of economic emancipation and social mobility, as well as the crisis and decay of the male bread-winner, Breaking Bad and Ozark describe a critical and cynical attachment to the modern American Dream. Passing from the “tragic” arc of Walter White to the dejected and melancholic struggles of the Byrdes, it is possible to detect a declining faith in the individualist, family and ownership-oriented values that have informed the neoliberal ecology and a consequent pervasive sense of loss in the longstanding tenets of American Exceptionalism.

Çocukluk Çağı Travmalarının Yetişkinlerde Psikolojik Esneklik ve Alkol Kullanımı Arasındaki İlişkide Aracı Rolü

Author(s): Gülsüm Sümeyye Çakadaş,Meryem Karaaziz / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 34/2024

Childhood trauma (CST) is a type of trauma that is often inflicted on children by people they know, has long-term effects, and is difficult to identify and treat. According to the World Health Organization, CST is any intentional or unintentional behavior by adults that negatively affects the health, physical and psychosocial development of children. The impact of VAC transcends cultural, social and economic boundaries and is a widespread problem. The effects of VAC on children's physical and mental development can lead to various psychosocial problems in childhood and adulthood. For this reason, it is of great importance to prevent child maltreatment, to address it with a multidisciplinary approach when it occurs, and to follow it up for a long period of time. This review aims to examine all aspects of CSA in the light of the studies conducted and to provide guidance to professionals working in the field of mental health and other disciplines. It also focuses on the mediating role of MTT in the relationship between psychological resilience and alcohol use in adults. In this context, the effects of MTT on psychological resilience and its relationship with alcohol use in adults are discussed in detail, and the potential links and interactions between these two factors are examined.

Legal Implementation of Domestic Violence: A Case Study of Military Justice and Social Issues in Ambon, Indonesia

Legal Implementation of Domestic Violence: A Case Study of Military Justice and Social Issues in Ambon, Indonesia

Author(s): Fauzia Rahawarin,La Jamaa,Husin Anang Kabalmay,Ahmad Lonthor / Language(s): English Issue: 6/2024

Law enforcement of domestic violence (DV) cases involving members of the military in Indonesia presents unique and complex challenges, particularly as it involves the overlap between general criminal law and military criminal law. This study analyses the relevant legal foundations, namely the Military Criminal Code (KUHPM) and Law No. 23/2004 on the Elimination of Domestic Violence (PKDRT Law), in the context of handling domestic violence cases committed by members of the military. Using a case study method and interviews with victim-witnesses, this research reveals that the application of the law against domestic violence in the military often faces obstacles due to the military hierarchy and strict corps values. The research findings suggest the need for stronger integration between military and civilian legal frameworks, as well as policy reforms in the procedures for handling domestic violence cases in the military to ensure fairer and more transparent justice. In addition, the study also proposes the establishment of a special unit to handle domestic violence in the military, improved gender-sensitive training, and stricter implementation of a "Zero Tolerance" policy to prevent and effectively handle domestic violence cases. These reforms are expected to strengthen military integrity and discipline and protect the rights of victims of domestic violence in Indonesia.

Непълнолетни със зависимост към психоактивни вещества и особености на темперамента им

Author(s): Tsvetan Petkov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2024

The data from the conducted research serves to develop a picture of the dependence between temperament, anxiety and depression and the use of psychoactive substances among children and adolescents. The processed results are the basis for good psychological practices in Bulgarian conditions, with the aim of connecting typical traits of the personality with his actions. We often ask ourselves the question „does the use of drugs and psychoactive substances (PSS) lead to criminal activities or not?” Research shows that there is a strong relationship between drug use and the occurrence of criminal acts. This is because the drug user has a distorted view of the social support in their own social circle. There are other social factors that are also important in understanding why there are children and young people who start using drugs, engage in criminal activity. These include, in addition to the living conditions of the individual, his family, friends in his environment, his mental health and his type of temperament.

Зависимост между агресивността при тийнейджъри с употребата им на психоактивни вещества

Author(s): Tsvetan Petkov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2024

The present article examines personality characteristics such as neuroticism, spontaneous and reactive aggression, irritability, and emotional lability in drug-using teenagers aged 13-18 years. Their behavior is described and analyzed only with regard to the factor of the environment - family, school, peers, society. Peculiarities in the character of the person are considered through the prism of their relative weight for the occurrence and escalation of the use of psychoactive substances. Given that this age is puberty, which means that the personality continues its development and character change, several basic recommendations cannot be made to reduce the effect of the risk factor „environment”, respectively support the development and affirmation of protective factor and preventive actions. To better illustrate the impact of teenage aggressiveness, we include a brief analysis from a survey conducted with substance users and behaviors in informal settings.

DIMENSIUNI ALE RELAŢIEI DINTRE NIVELUL ANXIETĂȚII, PERCEPȚIA SUPORTULUI SOCIAL ȘI RISCUL PENTRU ABUZUL DE ALCOOL ÎN RÂNDUL ADOLESCENȚILOR

Author(s): Aurelia Glavan,Grigore Ionașcu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 01/2022

In this article, the methodological framework and the results of a study is aimed at testing whether the social support of the family, which a teenager perceives as such, moderates the relationship between the specific symptoms of anxiety and the risk of alcohol abuse. The results we have obtained, suggests that social support from the family can help alleviate the risk of alcohol abuse among adolescents experiencing anxiety. In the context of current social, cultural and economic changes, as well as age-specific challenges, adolescence is seen as an insidious stage in the development of the human individual. For this reason, increased attention to the need for support can help prevent the risks to adolescents' physical and mental health, including the use of harmful substances.

Bayreuthske asocijacije

Author(s): Peter Sloterdijk / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 29/2024

ROMANIANS 'OPINIONS ABOUT THE PROGRAMS FOR THE YOUNG DELINQUENTS INTEGRATION

ROMANIANS 'OPINIONS ABOUT THE PROGRAMS FOR THE YOUNG DELINQUENTS INTEGRATION

Author(s): Dumitru Otovescu,Cateluța BĂNCIOI CREAC / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

Juvenile delinquency remained high, between 2014-2019, with over 3,000 cases of minors sent to court from 2015 to 2019, increasing by almost a third in 2019, in comparison with 2014 - the reference year, when the new Penal Code started to be applied. Despite the increaseing number of the prevention programs for juvenile delinquency, of the legal education in schools, as well as educational programs for the reintegration for juvenile delinquents into society, there has been a steady increase in the number of crimes committed by minors. The study to determines the public's perception of the effectiveness of recovery and reintegration programs in society for the young delinquents. The way in which the society perceives the phenomenon of juvenile delinquency and the real possibility of social reintegration of young people who commit criminal acts is important to determine the overall picture of the process of social reintegration for the young delinquents. The research uses both empirical and theoretical methods, qualitative and quantitative: Analysis of statistical data and case studies, as well as the Sociological Survey. The main hypothesis from which we started in this research is that although statistical data show an increase in the phenomenon of juvenile delinquency, the perception of the population about the effectiveness of educational programs for reintegrating young offenders into society is a positive one, favorable to continue these programs and projects that have been implemented in Romania in recent years, because the majority of the population considers that education is the main factor that can correct the behavior of the juvenile offender.

PROVIDING DRUG USE TREATMENT IN ROMANIA AMONG CHILDREN WHO HAVE COMMITTED A CRIMINAL ACT AND DON’T HAVE CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY

PROVIDING DRUG USE TREATMENT IN ROMANIA AMONG CHILDREN WHO HAVE COMMITTED A CRIMINAL ACT AND DON’T HAVE CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY

Author(s): Elena MANEA (MIRCEA) / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

The connection between drug use and crime is studied and recognized by specialists in the field, but aspects of this relationship are even more worrying when we talk about juvenile drug users who have committed criminal acts and especially minors who don’t have criminal responsibility. The phenomenon of juvenile delinquency is not a new one and over time, it has taken different forms, depending on the particularities of each era, the socio-economic situation and the cultural model. However, the opening of Romania's borders after the events of 1989, also meant the opening to illicit drug consumption, a phenomenon that represented a novelty element for Romania and that is becoming more obvious in our society. The need to protect the delinquent drug user may seem, at the level of common sense, a paradox, but a juvenile drug user who has committed a criminal offense may become a future delinquent adult with serious drug addiction’s problems. However, precisely by protecting the minor who has used drugs and committed an illicit act and with early intervention, that child has a chance to become a responsible adult, with values and basic rules related to the society in which he lives. The difficult subject of minors who commit crimes but don’t have criminal culpability is covered in this article. The legal standards, methodological regulations and instructions related to the particular intervention to (re)integrate young drug users who committed a crime but did not have criminal responsibility are examined.

Relationship with Parents, Symptoms of Depression and Internet Addiction among Adolescents During the Pandemic Period

Relationship with Parents, Symptoms of Depression and Internet Addiction among Adolescents During the Pandemic Period

Author(s): Roman Solecki,Anna Mróz / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

The research presented in this article aimed to answer the following question: what is the role of social support and quality of family relationships in the context of depressive symptoms and abuse of the Internet during the COVID-19 pandemic and remote learning by adolescents? The study was conducted among 619 adolescents aged 11‒15. The survey questionnaire was constructed from standardized research tools. The study showed that 40.0% of the students who took part in the study had increased depressive symptoms. Heavy Internet use affected 16.0% of the respondents, and there was 9.2% of those who had aggravated symptoms of depression and addiction at the same time Simultaneously, it was noted that girls, compared to boys, were more often found among adolescents experiencing symptoms of depression. Students belonging to the group with depressive and addictive symptoms experienced significantly more difficulties in their relationships with family members (mothers and fathers) compared to the group without symptoms. Students displayed less severity of depressive symptoms if there was mutual understanding and openness to alternative views and beliefs in their family. The results proved that the quality of family relationships is the most important for the normal functioning of adolescents without depressive symptoms, also in a pandemic situation.

The relationship between childhood trauma and internet addiction in adolescents: A meta-analysis

The relationship between childhood trauma and internet addiction in adolescents: A meta-analysis

Author(s): Haishan Tang,Yuanyuan Li,Wanglin Dong,Xiajun Guo,Sijia Wu,Chaoran Chen,Guangli Lu / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Objective: Many studies have explored the relationship between childhood trauma and internet addiction from different theoretical perspectives; however, the results have been inconsistent. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to examine the relationship between childhood trauma and internet addiction. Methods: The PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CNKI, Wanfang and VIP electronic databases were searched to identify studies examining the correlation between childhood trauma and adolescent internet addiction. The databases were searched from inception to December 31, 2022. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted the data, and evaluated the risk of bias of the included studies. Then, Stata 17.0 software was used to perform meta-analysis. Results: This study was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42023388699). A total of 19 studies involving 21,398 adolescents were included in this meta-analysis. The random effects model was used for pooled analysis, and the results revealed a strong positive association between childhood trauma and internet addiction (r 5 0.395, 95% CI [0.345, 0.442]). The relationship between childhood trauma and internet addiction was moderated by sample size, survey area, and internet addiction measurement tools. There were significant differences between the associations based on the various child trauma measurement tools and study quality scores. However, interstudy heterogeneity was not significantly affected by study year, sample source, or participant age. Conclusion: Internet addiction is positively correlated with childhood trauma. Therefore, it is extremely important for parents to provide a good growth environment during childhood to enhance the physical and mental development of adolescents. A warm family atmosphere helps individuals develop a healthy personality, thereby reducing or preventing the occurrence of internet addiction. Due to the limited number and low quality of the included studies, the above conclusions need to be verified by additional high-quality studies.

Ten years of research on the treatments of internet gaming disorder: A scoping review and directions for future research

Author(s): Guang-Heng Dong,Junhong Dai,Marc N. Potenza / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Background: Although internet gaming disorder (IGD) has been listed in section III of the DSM-5 for approximately 10 years, the study of treatments for IGD remains in early stages. Nonetheless, a summary of findings to date and discussion of future research needs are warranted. Methods: The current study reviewed scientific treatment studies with control groups and randomized controlled trials. We summarized the strengths and weaknesses of different treatment strategies and identified gaps in the research literature that may inform the direction of future research efforts. Results: Sixteen studies were reviewed. Existing treatment studies may be categorized into cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), pharmacotherapies, non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS), and others. Conclusions: CBT is the most widely studied treatment strategy for IGD thus far. Future studies should consider IGD-specific CBT treatment strategies. Medication-based treatment should be implemented with caution. NIBS is promising, and future studies should explore the most efficacious parameters and targets. In addition, studies should consider sex differences in the treatment of IGD.

Mobile phone addiction and suicide behaviors among Chinese adolescents: The mediation of poor sleep quality

Mobile phone addiction and suicide behaviors among Chinese adolescents: The mediation of poor sleep quality

Author(s): Junhan Cheng,Chang Peng,Fajuan Rong,Yan Wang,Yafei Tan,Yizhen Yu / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Background and aims: Mobile phone addiction (MPA) is emerging among adolescents, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, there is a dearth of knowledge regarding the correlation between MPA and suicide behaviors and its mechanism. The objective of the current study is exploring the direct effect of MPA on suicide behaviors and the indirect effect through poor sleep quality. Methods: A total of 18,900 Chinese adolescents aged 12 to 18 were recruited via a multi-stage cluster sampling method. Results: The prevalence of MPA and poor sleep quality was 26.2 and 23.1%, respectively. During the past year, 24.4% participants were involved in suicide behaviors. Specifically, suicide ideators, suicide planners, and suicide attempters were 10.7, 8.4, and 5.3%, respectively. Particularly, rural females had the highest prevalence of suicide behaviors, MPA, and poor sleep quality. Logistic regression analysis showed that MPA was significantly associated with suicide ideators (OR 5 1.22, 95% CI: 1.09–1.37, p < 0.001) and planners (OR 5 1.18, 95% CI: 1.04–1.34, p < 0.05), but not for suicide attempters (p > 0.05). Structural equation modelling demonstrated that MPA had direct effect on suicide behaviors (β 5 0.145, 95% CI 5 0.127–0.160), and poor sleep quality partially mediated the relationship (the mediating ratio was 46.7%). The mediating ratio of poor sleep quality was the highest in urban males. Conclusions: MPA has both direct and indirect effects on suicide behaviors. For suicide prevention, limited mobile phone use and improvement sleep quality may be practical for adolescents. Additionally, more efforts of intervention could give priority to rural girls.
