The Yearbook of Slovakia’s Foreign Policy is a unique project which has for the past nine years been, we hope that successfully, contributing to the development of the tradition of the regular evaluation and analysis of the foreign policy of the Slovak Republic in the given year and supporting the cultivation of the foreign policy debate. This publication represents a significant and at the same time the only book source keeping record of the development of Slovakia’s foreign policy and the discussion on its further direction. The foreign policy of every country needs to build its own traditions especially in the case of a young state such as the Slovak Republic. Should the foreign policy be successful it must have its own form, its own language and its own institutions. In this sense under the term institutions it is necessary to comprehend not only the buildings of state bodies which are occupied by those who are responsible for the formulation and implementation of foreign policy. In a democratic state the public discussion is a part of the formulation of all public policies and foreign policy is not an exception. It is very important that public discussion gains institutional forms which become a tradition because without traditions there is no continuity and the absence of continuity means the repetition of old mistakes and always starting from point zero. In other words tradition is institutionalized memory. New knowledge is impossible without memory and without knowledge there can be no good political decisions. That is why traditions are so important especially in an area such as the foreign policy of a state. In this context it is possible to see the exceptionality of this publication as a ‘tradition’ as well as its specific position in the public debate on Slovakia’s foreign policy. It is a unique forum primarily dedicated to Slovakia’s foreign policy which provides space for those who bear the responsibility for the realization of the foreign policy of this country and those who are not indifferent to Slovakia’s foreign policy. The Yearbook serves for the exchange of opinions, knowledge, experience, positions and arguments with the goal of improving the quality of decisions in the area of foreign policy to best serve the interests of this country. We are convinced that it is very important to regularly evaluate the state of Slovakia’s foreign policy, which crucial events occurred in the past year and what challenges stand before the Slovak Republic in the near future. These were the main goals and intentions of the previous Yearbook editions; we prepared this year’s edition with identical objectives and we believe that we will do the same in the following years. The 2007 Yearbook evaluates the year of our foreign policy in the traditional structure. It analyzes Slovakia’s operation in the international environment, the realization of the priority areas of our foreign policy as well as the effectiveness of the instruments of its implementation. The introductory contribution of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic is however an exception compared to previous years. It summarizes and evaluates the foreign policy of the past 12 months from the viewpoint of the person bearing the responsibility for the formulation and implementation of foreign policy throughout the electoral term. This text thematically corresponds to individual chapters in the Yearbook which gives the reader the unique opportunity of seeing the same issue from two different angles. The expert section of the Yearbook is opened by the contribution of Vladimír Bilčík from the Research Center of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association who focuses on the process of the completion of the integration process as well as the challenge of the active contribution to the formation of the future EU which stands before the SR in the upcoming period. Our Permanent Representative to the UN Peter Burian evaluated the goals and conditions of our operation in the UN Security Council, analyzed threats and their solutions and didn’t leave out a thorough analysis of our February presidency. Tomáš Valášek, the Director of Foreign Policy and Defense at the Centre for European Reform in London, concluded the first chapter with his view of the Slovak security policy and our operation in foreign missions. The second section of the Yearbook devoted to the priority areas of our foreign policy is opened by the article of the High Representative of the International Community for Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Miroslav Lajčák. In his contribution on Slovak policy in the Western Balkans he instigates a reflection upon how most of all the EU but also NATO could strengthen our positions and how to maintain our long-term specialization on this agenda. Tomáš Strážay, RC SFPA analyst, focused his attention on the successes and some problematic areas of the cooperation of V4 countries as well as to the resolutions which they were not able to fulfill but which could increase the significance and effectiveness of the V4 in the near future. Alexander Duleba, RC SFPA Director and Head of the East European research program, attempted to evaluate the development of the political and economic agenda of Slovak relations with its eastern partners in the year 2007 including the fulfillment of the new foreign policy priority – the economic dimension of Slovak diplomacy. The contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the SR to external energy security was addressed in the article of Ján Šoth, the Director of the Analyses and Policy Planning Department and the Head of the Standing Work Group on External Energy Security. The concluding part of the expert section which is devoted to the institutional background and foreign policy instruments is opened by the contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary General Marcel Peško on the modernization of the Slovak Foreign Service and the future character of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic. The representatives of the Slovak Non-Governmental Development Platform Eva Havelková and Nora Beňáková focused on the functioning of presumably the most important bilateral instrument of the Slovak foreign policy in the year 2007 – development assistance. The authors offered their view of the institutional and legislative changes in the Slovak ODA and tried to compare the territorial and sector objectives of bilateral projects in the periods before and after the realization of said changes. The expert segment of the Yearbook is closed by the contribution of the Director of the International Economic Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Jaroslav Chlebo which is devoted to the possibly most frequently cited collocation in this electoral term – the economic dimension of diplomacy. The expert section is traditionally supplemented by annexes such as the chronology of the most important foreign policy events, chosen political documents, a list of international treaties, information on the structure and representatives of state administrative bodies operating in foreign policy, a list of diplomatic missions and representatives of the SR abroad, SR diplomatic bodies, military missions abroad etc. We firmly believe that also this year’s Yearbook edition will find its readers and serve to all those who are interested in the past, present and future of Slovakia as well as its foreign policy. In conclusion we would like to thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the SR for its cooperation in this project and its support as well as for the fact that, also thanks to this institution, we can continue in building this much needed tradition.

Migration as a process has countless approaches and edges to study, from forced migration caused by war, failed states or natural disasters, to the migration of retirees to paradisiacal sites in order to improve quality older adults' lives. However, the bulk of migration studies persist in analyzing and clarifying labour force migration from the economic south to the north. In this sense, the present book "Human Mobility in Latin America; new patterns, new challenges" implies a serious effort on the part of publishers to bring new discussions to human mobility from multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary, so that, the reader will find a series of ten articles that address the problem of migration in Latin America, as an expulsion region of migrants, but always attending to the object of study in a rigorous and new way.

The book contains a series of eight long case studies on various business issues in emerging markets (for instance Polish, Chinese, Nigerian). The authors focus on a variety of topics from marketing, through business operations, finance, leadership, innovation, business development, internationalization and decisions to human resources management. Also, the perspective of the analyzed issues is varied, in the initial case studies, the microeconomic approach dominates, then the mezoeconomic and macroeconomic approach. The team of authors included both academics, with extensive teaching experience in English-speaking studies, and business practitioners whose practical knowledge allows them to explore contemporary business challenges in emerging markets. We are putting this book in the hands of lecturers and students of economics, finance, and management, believing that it will be a source of inspiration, discussion and will allow to better explore contemporary business. At the same time, we hope that by offering this book, we are filling a gap in the publication market, which has been dominated by case studies dedicated to well-known companies, well-known brands, and mature markets.

Production–operation management: The chosen aspects

The aim of the e-book is to present the theoretical, cognitive and practical aspects of the essence and complexity of operational management in a production company. The presented modern production methods together with the challenges and problems of contemporary enterprises should better help to understand the issues of sustainable development, with particular emphasis on waste. The book consists of six chapters devoted to relevant and topic issues relating to the core business of an industrial enterprise. Chapter 1 The nature of the industrial enterprise is an introduction to further considerations and deals with the essence of the basic aspects of the company. Both popular and less known definitions of an enterprise, its features, functions and principles of operation are presented. An important part of the chapter is the presentation and formulation of strategic, tactical and operational goals. Moreover, the division of enterprises is presented with the use of various criteria and the features of the industrial market, which make it distinct. Chapter 2 The operational management evolution and its role in the industrial enterprise discusses the evolution and concept of production and operational management. The management levels were also presented, indicating their most important functions. An integral part of the chapter is the essence of the production system, viewed through the prism of the five elements. Chapter 3 Functions and role in operations management presents the issues concerning the organization of production processes, production capacity and inventory management. This part also presents considerations on cooperation and collaboration between enterprises in the process of creating value. Chapter 4 Traditional methods used in operational activities focuses on methods such as benchmarking, outsourcing, core competences, JIT, MPR I and MRP II, as well as TQM and kaizen. Knowledge of these methods should contribute to understanding the activities of modern enterprises, the way of company functioning, the realization of production activities, as well as aspects related to building a competitive position. Chapter 5 Modern methods used in production-operations management discusses the less common and less frequently used production methods, based on a modern and innovative approach. In particular, it was focused on: Shop Floor Control and cooperative manufacturing, environment-conscious manufacturing (ECM) and life-cycle assessment ( LCA), waste management and recycling, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), virtual enterprise, World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and House of Quality (HOQ), theory of constraints (TOC), Drum Buffer Rope (DBR), group technology (GT) and cellular manufacturing (CM), Demand Chain Management and competitive intelligence (CI). In the last section discusses: the role of sustainable statistical process control and Computer-Aided Process Planning in context formatting of information management. Chapter 6 Problems of sustainable development and challenges related to production and operations management describes the problem and challenges related to production and operations activities. In particular, attention was paid to the threats related to changes in global warming, the growing scale of waste, or the processes of globalization. It was pointed out that the emerging problem may be both a threat and a chance for the development of enterprises. An integral part of the chapter are also considerations on technical progress, innovation and the importance of human capital in operational activities.

Tytuł monografii został zaczerpnięty z poglądów głoszonych przez francuskich logistyków akademickich i dotyczy globalnego systemu ekonomicznego, zbudowanego z wielu podmiotów gospodarczych rozproszonych na całym świecie, który pomimo liberalizacji stosunków gospodarczych i politycznych oraz wsparcia technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych nie mógłby funkcjonować bez międzynarodowej logistyki. Monografia składa się z trzech części. Pierwsza dotyczy współczesnych trendów i wyzwań w logistyce i łańcuchach dostaw. Należą do nich: logistykacja w biznesie, rezyliencja ekonomiczna, ryzyko zakłóceń w łańcuchach dostaw, gospodarka współdzielenia, rozwój rynku e-commerce oraz transformacja łańcuchów dostaw. W drugiej części uwagę poświęcono szeroko pojętym transportowi, spedycji i logistyce, w szczególności transportowi publicznemu, logistyce ostatniej mili, edukacji logistycznej i lokalizacji centrów dystrybucji. Natomiast część trzecia odnosi się do obszarów finansowych w logistyce i łańcuchach dostaw – standingu i wyników finansowych spółek sektora TSL oraz aspektów międzykulturowych w zarządzaniu finansami łańcuchów dostaw.

System wynagrodzeń. Uwarunkowania kulturowe

Sektor ubezpieczeń w obliczu wyzwań współczesności

Przedmiotem monografii są wyzwania dla ubezpieczycieli generowane przez zmiany otoczenia społeczno-gospodarczego. Sektor ubezpieczeń jest silnie eksponowany na takie zmiany. Academic entrepreneurship in theory and practice

Rola convention bureau w kształtowaniu konkurencyjności miasta

W monografii postawiono problem badawczy: w jaki sposób działalność convention bureau wpływa na konkurencyjność miasta. Przyjęto, że convention bureau wpływa na konkurencyjność miasta, oddziałując na kształtowanie się kosztów transakcyjnych na rynku spotkań, a tym samym na wykorzystanie lokalnych zasobów. Z kolei celem pracy była identyfikacja zakresów działalności convention bureau w największym stopniu przyczyniających się do ograniczania kosztów transakcyjnych w branży spotkań. Wieloetapowe badanie empiryczne dotyczyło ról oraz zadań zagranicznych i polskich convention bureaux. W pierwszej kolejności odwołano się do zagadnienia konkurencyjności miast, różnorodności zasobów niezbędnych do jej kształtowania, a także znaczenia instytucji i kosztów transakcyjnych w tym procesie. W następnych dwóch rozdziałach scharakteryzowano branżę spotkań oraz jej strukturę przedmiotową i podmiotową. W czwartym rozdziale skoncentrowano się na convention bureau – genezie tego podmiotu, jego definicjach, a także podstawowych zakresach działalności. Piąty rozdział stanowi podsumowanie metod badawczych zastosowanych podczas badań. W kolejnych dwóch rozdziałach zaprezentowano wyniki empirycznej weryfikacji założeń teoretycznych. Wreszcie zebrano wnioski wynikające ze studiów literaturowych i analiz empirycznych oraz przedstawiono rekomendacje praktyczne. Stwierdzono, że convention bureau może oddziaływać na konkurencyjność miasta na wiele sposobów – przede wszystkim jednak odgrywając rolę agenta, ponieważ w tym przypadku powinno w największym stopniu ograniczać koszty transakcyjne powstające w relacjach między organizatorem spotkania, lokalną branżą spotkań i samorządem. Równocześnie wpływa na wykorzystanie miejscowych zasobów oraz wzmacnia potencjał miasta w bezpośredniej rywalizacji na arenie międzynarodowej.

Didactics of mathematics, natural sciences and vocational education represent developing areas and are a breeding ground for new ideas and approaches. From a practical point of view, physics and chemistry are interconnected by using simulations in teaching. Vocational education is represented from various perspectives, whether in technical education, by solving logistical problems, or educational activities in the teaching of economic subjects. Transformacja cyfrowa samorządu gminnego w Polsce

Tematem monografii są warunki, bariery, źródła finansowania oraz przejawy transformacji cyfrowej gmin. Jej celem jest diagnoza wykorzystywania przez gminy nowych technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych, a tym samym ich przygotowania do funkcjonowania w gospodarce 4.0. Gospodarka 4.0 to gospodarka ogromnych ilości danych, które są gromadzone, przetwarzane, analizowane i archiwizowane za pomocą coraz nowszych technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych. Szybki rozwój tych technologii wymusił konieczność przystosowania się różnych podmiotów do funkcjonowania w nowych realiach. Na ścieżkę transformacji cyfrowej wstępują nie tylko przedsiębiorstwa, instytucje finansowe, gospodarstwa domowe, ale też organy władzy i administracji publicznej (na przykład gminy). Dotyczy ona zasobów, usług, procesów, kultury organizacyjnej oraz kompetencji, a służy podnoszeniu jakości usług publicznych, usprawnieniu pracy urzędu, wsparciu procesów podejmowania decyzji, zwiększeniu przejrzystości działania gmin, angażowaniu mieszkańców w życie wspólnoty lokalnej, samorządowej oraz dążeniu do zrównoważonego rozwoju. Różny jest stopień dotychczasowej transformacji cyfrowej gmin. Z przeprowadzonych badań wynika, że jednostkami najlepiej przygotowanymi do funkcjonowania w gospodarce 4.0 są miasta na prawach powiatu. Jednak w każdej kategorii gmin znajdują się takie, które aktywnie poszukują możliwości zastosowania technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych do świadczenia usług, choć napotykają bariery finansowe, społeczno-kulturowe, technologiczne i organizacyjne.

W monografii przedstawiono miejsce i rolę polityki rachunkowości oraz możliwości stosowania jej instrumentów w procesie kształtowania obrazu jednostki gospodarczej. Omówiono politykę rachunkowości w zakresie wyceny aktywów i zobowiązań, aktualizacji wartości w warunkach kryzysu gospodarczego, ochrony zasobów informatycznych, ładu korporacyjnego oraz ujawnień dotyczących zrównoważonego rozwoju. Poruszono problem podatkowego oddziaływania na politykę rachunkowości. Zaprezentowano nowe trendy w komunikowaniu polityki rachunkowości przez jednostki gospodarcze, a także wskazano na instrumenty polityki rachunkowości w kreowaniu wizerunku i zarządzaniu wrażeniem. Przedstawiono też rolę polityki rachunkowości w badaniu sprawozdania finansowego. Monografia ma charakter naukowy, jednak ze względu na przejrzysty język i liczne przykłady praktyczne może być cennym źródłem wiedzy i inspiracji nie tylko dla badaczy w obszarze rachunkowości, lecz również studentów kierunków ekonomicznych i praktyków (księgowych, biegłych rewidentów, dyrektorów finansowych).

Is there any ‘new normal’? Economics of the turmoil

With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world came to a standstill. Scholars and policymakers dealing with the economic consequences of the pandemic quickly realised that returning to the pre-pandemic state was impossible—the global community had been heading toward a “new normal”. Unfortunately, before we could recognise and tame the “new normal” for good, it was disrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and subsequent energy crises. Therefore, in the monograph’s title, we question whether any “new normal” exists. However, disruptions and shocks are unimaginable to get used to; as researchers, we believe knowledge becomes particularly valuable in such circumstances. Defining, studying and describing turmoils allow, if only to some extent, to control the damages they cause. Hence, the research presented in this book aims to identify and explore challenges at the supranational and national levels. Focusing on those challenges, we got to investigate the multidimensional impact of the pandemic shock on business reality. In doing that, we hoped to collect a valuable foundation for formulating a resilience policy, which, to be effective, must respect the peculiarity of national economies, industries, firms, and individual consumers.

Znaĉaj nauke za ĉovjeka i ljudsko društvo vrlo je velik. Nauka je naĉin spoznaje svijeta. A svijet u kojem mi ţivimo je veoma ovisan o nauci i tehnologiji. Da bismo bolje navigirali ovim svijetom, potrebno je da znamo ponešto o osnovnim nauĉnim fenomenima – kako stvari rade, kako se nešto dešava i kako funkcionira naš organizam. Zato ulaganje u nauku i obrazovanje, a samim tim i u ljudske resurse, donosi veliku korist za pojedince i društvo u cjelini. Pojedinci i društvene grupe zauzimaju odreĊeno mjesto u društvu na osnovu znanja kojim raspolaţu. Ono unapreĊuje sve oblasti ĉovjekovog ţivota i djelovanja. Društvo i nauka su ĉvrsto vezani i nalaze se u meĊusobnom odnosu. Društvo je stvaralo uslove i davalo društveni ambijent u kome se nauka mogla razvijati. S druge strane, nauka je omogućavala brţi razvoj pojedinih društvenih oblasti i cijelog društva. Povoljni društveni uslovi uticali su na nastanak brojnih izuma, patenata, tehniĉkih rješenja i modernizacija. Razvoj informatike dodatno je ubrzao razvoj i povezivanje preduzeća, multinacionalnih kompanija, drţava regija i svijeta. Povećana je razmjena ljudi, dobara, proizvoda i usluga. Ĉetvrta industrijska revolucija otvorila je neslućene mogućnosti razvoja i dalje promjene društva, društvenih odnosa. Sve ove promjene utiĉu pozitivno i na razvoj cjelokupnog društva, ali i demokratije i ljudskih prava. Sve ovo govori o jednoj simbiozi koja je rezultirala da nauka i društvo postanu jedna savremena forma ljudskog ţivora i razvoja civilizacije u XXI vijeku. Zbornik radova pod naslovom „SAVREMENA SIMBIOZA - NAUKA I DRUŠTVO“ je publikacija nauĉnih radova u okviru nauĉnog skupa „Nauka i društvo“. Ova publikacija predstavlja nauĉne i struĉne radove već dokazanih nauĉnih radnika i istraţivaĉa, ali i onih koji su na poĉetku svog nauĉnog rada. U Zborniku su objavljeni radovi nauĉnih radnika iz Bosne i Hercegovine i Republike Srbije, koji su u skladu sa njihovim nauĉnim iskustvom, uz dobronamjerne recenzije, usklaĊeni i adekvatno kategorisani. S obzirom na multidisciplinarnost teme zbornik obuhvata radove iz raznih nauĉnih disciplina kao što su: ekonomija, pravo, bezbjednost, defektologija, politiĉke nauke, sociologija i pedagogija. Radovi su aktuelni i obraĊuju savremena društvena pitanja i probleme, ali i teorijska i praktiĉna dostignuća pojedinih nauĉnih disciplina. Na takav naĉin dajemo podsticaja svim mladim ljudima da kroz svoj nauĉni rad daju doprinos u rješavanju brojnih društvenih problema. Upravo i prilikom izbora tekstova ureĊivaĉki odbor je ţelio da takvi radovi budu prioritetni u ovom zborniku, te je i sam naziv istog proistekao iz te ideje i potrebe. Nauĉni radnici, posebno oni koji su na poĉetku svoje akademske karijere, trebaju podršku kako bi istrajali u svom usavršavanju i nauĉnom dokazivanju. Ovaj Zbornik, kao i sam nauĉni skup, nastao je iz entuzijazma nekolicine profesora okupljenih oko Centra modernih znanja, da kroz ovakav vid nauĉnog rada otvore vrata nauke svim mladim nauĉnim radnicima i istraţivaĉima kako bi i njihova empirijska istraţivanja i dobijeni rezultati bili prezentovani široj javnosti. TakoĊe, dosadašnja saradnja sa kolegama iz Beograda i Nikšića rezultirala je da izdavaĉi ovog zbornika budu tri udruţenja iz regiona koja već duţi vremenski period saraĊuju organizujući razne edukacije. Brojni radovi otvaraju razne dileme i ostavljaju mjesta diskusiji kako i na koji naĉin nastaviti i razvijati razne nauĉne discipline. S tim u vezi ostavljamo vam prostora, da i vi svojim sugestijama i razmišljanjima, zajedno sa autorima traţite efikasnija rješenja i mogućnosti. Ovaj Zbornik nije konaĉan, jer nauka svaki dan traga za neĉim novim pa tako i autori i ureĊivaĉki tim ove publikacije.

With a strong focus on empirical methodologies, the collection provides fresh insights into themes such as organisational conflicts, healthcare reforms, transhumanism and civic engagement. Noteworthy are the innovative approaches and critical discussions led by doctoral researchers and established academics, fostering a productive exchange of ideas. This collection not only enriches the sociological discourse in Bulgaria but also has the potential to contribute to the global understanding of social transformations in post-transition contexts.

Polski aktywizm. Działalność organizacji pozarządowych w kryzysie uchodźczym związanym z wojną w Ukrainie

W książce została podjęta problematyka zaangażowania polskich organizacji pozarządowych w zapewnienie wsparcia uchodźcom po agresji Rosji na Ukrainę w 2022 r. Stanęły one wówczas przed ogromnym wyzwaniem dostosowania działań do sytuacji i szybko nawiązały współpracę z otoczeniem. Autorzy wskazali, że fundamentem tej aktywności był potencjał ludzki, a kluczową rolę odgrywali wolontariusze. Na podstawie studiów literaturowych i badań empirycznych autorzy określili potencjał zasobowy organizacji i jego związek ze skalą udzielonej pomocy. Liczba ukraińskich obywateli wspieranych przez polskie organizacje pozarządowe wykazała istotny statystycznie związek z liczbą pracowników organizacji, poziomem znajomości wśród wolontariuszy zasad udzielania profesjonalnej pomocy uchodźcom, liczbą godzin poświęconych na pomoc uchodźcom oraz liczbą sposobów motywowania wolontariuszy. Przeprowadzone badanie wypełnia lukę w literaturze naukowej poświęconej sektorowi non profit, zagadnieniu spontanicznego wolontariatu i pojęciu potencjału zasobowego organizacji. Monografia jest pierwszą publikacją naukową w Polsce, która w ilościowy sposób prezentuje rolę organizacji pozarządowych i wolontariuszy w pomocy udzielonej ukraińskim uchodźcom w początkowym okresie wojny. Zawarte w książce wnioski są kierowane głównie do menedżerów organizacji non profit oraz decydentów politycznych odpowiedzialnych za zapewnienie systemu wsparcia uchodźców w czasach kryzysu.
