The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Aesthetic Procedures

The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Aesthetic Procedures

Author(s): Svetlana NIXON,Stefan COJOCARU / Language(s): English Issue: 86/2024

Throughout human history, the appearance of the body has affected the way people perceive themselves and the way they are perceived. Consequently, people have developed ways of changing it to conform to societal standards of beauty. Medical advancements and progress in aesthetic medicine have made beauty more accessible. In modern society, people increasingly think of the body as a “project and process,” making it a long-term investment in social status. Various studies on the relationship between individuals’ personal social status and external appearance have shown the two to be tightly interconnected. The outbreak of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic triggered the widespread use of online meeting platforms, e.g., Zoom, Skype, Teams, etc. This has brought about the “Zoom effect,” individuals’ stronger awareness of their looks, which has raised more interest in aesthetic treatments. Researchers emphasize the positive effect of aesthetic treatments in lifting moods and improving depression. This paper discusses socially-motivated behavior and the effect of individuals’ external appearance on their social status.

PREDICTORS OF JOB SATISFACTION

PREDICTORS OF JOB SATISFACTION

Author(s): Mădălina-Ioana Raţiu / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

In this paper, we will present the results obtained following a research that aimed to analyse the associations between job satisfaction and a number of its predictors, such as: attachment style, friendships at work, gender, age, marital status and level of education. The first part of the present work presents a brief foray into the consulted specialized literature. The second part focuses on the methodology used – research questions, hypotheses and tools used in assessing the association between the previously mentioned variables. The obtained results show that people with a secure attachment style experience higher job satisfaction, compared to avoidants. Moreover, it seems that friendships at the workplace and the higher level of education of employees have a positive influence on increased job satisfaction. In contrast, there appear to be no significant differences between married and single employees, nor between male and female employees when it comes to job satisfaction.

ADOLESCENTS ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOR. COMPARATIVE STUDY BY GENDER AND AGE

Author(s): Mariana Floricica Călin,Elena-Teodora NURCIU / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

The theme addressed in this paper is one of great importance, antisocial behavior in teenagers being a sensitive topic. For this reason I wanted to research the differences that can appear depending on gender and age through its presence in adolescents. A sample of 76 students was assessed by selfadministering a questionnaire on antisocial behavior and the characteristics that this type of behavior implies. The purpose of the present study is to examine and evaluate differences in antisocial behavior in adolescents according to gender and age. The results showed that there are significant differences in antisocial behavior by gender and age. The statistical results and the confirmed hypotheses are supported by the specialized literature, but also by my own opinion regarding the possible reasons. The understanding, support and affective communication offered by the family, social and school framework, as well as the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral and humanistic therapeutic methods, can have positive results in reducing this antisocial behavior.

K některým problémům spojeným s pokračováním v trestném činu, trvajícími a hromadnými trestnými činy

Author(s): Pavel Šámal / Language(s): Czech Issue: 4/2024

The journal article discusses the problems associated with crimes committed over a longer period of time, in particular in the context of the Supreme Court’s decision of 23 September 2020, file number 8 Tdo 866/2020, which dealt with whether the offence of stalking under section 354 of the Criminal Code was a continuation of an offence or an ongoing one. When discussing this decision in the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court, a debate was held as to whether it was correctly an ongoing or cumulative offence. The article deals with the arguments that have been made in this regard and concludes that it is an ongoing offence. In that context, it also addresses the issue of the so-called coherent actions, and on the basis of analysis of Supreme Court jurisprudence, that these are not another category of crimes characterised by a longer period of committing, but are merely an adjunct in theory and practice of differentiated categories continuation of offence, ongoing offence, and cumulative offence which serves only to refine and distinguish them correctly in specific cases under assessment.

Author(s): Anita Tóth-Bakos,Tímea Mészáros,Attila Mészáros,Agáta Csehiová / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

The main theme of the study is the use of the flipped classroom method as a possible alternative to learner-centred teaching. The main goal of the flipped classroom method is to make class time as active as possible for the students. In doing so, they learn through their own experiences and active work. This makes the learning environment more learner-centred, which has a positive impact on learners' attitudes, motivation and quality of educational process. The paper summarizes good practice in the application of the method, and the experience and results are gathered. The pilot application has been implemented at the Faculty of Education of J. Selye University in the academic year 2022/23 within the Erasmus+ project “Developing Flipped Methods for Teaching”. The aim of the study is to present in detail the steps and elements of the application of the flipped classroom with the focus being on classroom activities. The results of the pre-tests and post-tests, as well as student and teacher feedback, will be presented to assess the application of the method. The main aim of the work is to demonstrate the application of the method in practice as an inspiration to increase its widespread awareness and use.

The “objective test” and the downstream market presence requirement in Big Data access cases under the essential facilities doctrine - a critical assessment

The “objective test” and the downstream market presence requirement in Big Data access cases under the essential facilities doctrine - a critical assessment

Author(s): Rok Dacar / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

One possible way to gain access to competitively relevant sets of Big Data is toapply the essential facilities doctrine. However, the European Commission and theEuropean Court of Justice have established several different criteria for applying thedoctrine. Since neither institution has yet applied the doctrine in Big Data accesscases, it is not clear which of the criteria applies in such positions. This paper attemptsto analyze the impact of the “objective test” and the requirement that the controllingcompany be active in the downstream market (which are included in all assessmentcriteria) in Big Data access cases, with the goal of answering the research question,“Do the application of the “objective test” and the requirement that the controllingcompany be active in the downstream market impede the effectiveness of the doctrinein Big Data access cases under EU competition law, and if so, how should they bechanged?” The conclusion is that in Big Data access cases, the “objective test” shouldbe mitigated and replaced by the “subjective test” or the “average company test” andthe requirement that the controlling company be active in the downstream marketshould be discarded altogether in order for the doctrine to be an effective tool foraccessing competitively relevant sets of Big Data.

Křesťanství a islám v USA a analýza metod k odhadu jejich zastoupení v populaci

Křesťanství a islám v USA a analýza metod k odhadu jejich zastoupení v populaci

Author(s): Petr Mocek / Language(s): Czech Issue: 3/2024

Estimating the sizes of religious communities in the United States is a relatively infrequent subject of discussion. Nonetheless, understanding the religious landscape in the USA holds significant importance not only for analyzing religious trends and interfaith dynamics but also for various sectors such as services, government administration, and marketing. Due to the interpretation of the legal guarantee of religious freedom in the country, obtaining precise data about religious affiliations through government led social surveys and research is challenging. This responsibility falls upon civic organizations, which have limited authority and resources. These organizations employ diverse approaches to estimate the number of believers, and these estimates may not always be completely accurate. Given the scarcity of resources dedicated to this topic, it seems appropriate to evaluate the most currently accessible methods. This article evaluates three methods for estimating religious communities in the USA, focusing on comparing Christianity and Islam as representative examples.

Author(s): Eduard Kubů,Barbora Štolleová / Language(s): English Issue: 1 (31)/2020

The text explains the approaches of the Prague School of Economic History asso ciated mainly with the Institute of Economic and Social History, Faculty of Arts, Charles University to the discipline of business history and their methodology. The subject of interest of the research circle within the Prague School of Economic His tory are all types of business units from multinational corporations, through domes tic joint-stock companies, family companies of all types, cooperatives, to individual entrepreneurs. The research of the business, entrepreneur/manager is carried out in the broad context of market development, but also political, social and cultural devel opment. In this respect, the approach correlates with the almost universally accepted post-chandlerian definition of the subject of research of business history. Method ologically, the Prague School of Economic History is part of the historical stream of business history. It prefers the historical approach given by the instruments of historical sciences. However, it also respects economic theory, uses it primarily as a the oretical basis, a framework for research organization. Combination of approaches from historical, economic, sociological, legal, ethnographic, and other social sciences to create the most thoroughbred image possible is considered as natural.

Impact of Robot Installations on Employment and Labour Productivity in Automotive Industry

Impact of Robot Installations on Employment and Labour Productivity in Automotive Industry

Author(s): Lenka Pisková,Marian Dobranschi,Pavel Semerád,Milena Otavová / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

The automotive industry is regarded as one of the most robotized sectors of the manufacturing industry. The topic of robotization is currently intensely debated as part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0. In this study, we focus on automobile manufacturers operating in selected countries of the European Union and analyse the level of labour productivity and employment in the period 2002-2021. Specifically, we investigate whether the annual installation of robots and the total number of robots in the automotive industry have a negative impact on labour demand. The collected data are evaluated using empirical analysis. Our estimations show that the installation of robots in the automotive industry has a positive effect on labour demand. At the same time, however, it is found that labour productivity tends to decrease as the number of robots increases. A possible explanation for these results is that major manufacturing activities in this sector are being replaced with machines at the expense of human labour. Implications for Central European audience: Theoretical implications of the article arise from primary literature, which investigates the implications of industry robotization on the labour market. The practical implications stem from our empirical analysis, which investigates the impact of robotization on labour demand and productivity in automobile industries across the EU.

Author(s): Ivan TYLNYI,Olha MOSKVYCH,Viktoriia GOLOVEI,Oksana SOKHATSKA,Viktor SHOSTAK / Language(s): English Issue: 87/2024

This article aims to highlight the aspects of intercultural communication in the virtual environment, mainly focusing on the interaction of virtual teams composed of carriers of different cultures. The methodology is based on principles of impartiality, tolerance, and cultural relativism. The primary research focuses on the interaction of cultures in virtual teams engaged in project tasks and the advantages and challenges of intercultural virtual communication. When working in virtual teams, attention is focused on cultural characteristics, referring to the methodology proposed by Geert Hofstede and his colleagues. Using the 5-D model of national culture, examples from India, France, China, Denmark, the USA, and Brazil were analysed to understand the specifics of cultural diversity and its potential for virtual communication to ensure practical international cooperation. Particular attention was paid to cultural differences and their impact on intercultural interaction. Among the general aspects of intercultural virtual communication, we highlighted cultural differences and their impact on intercultural interaction, and using these differences to enhance the effectiveness of team virtual work and create a comfortable virtual environment; explicit (visible) and implicit aspects of culture; differences in time zones affecting organisational moments and the need to consider cultural differences when planning synchronous and asynchronous communication formats; differences in workplace culture (organisation of the virtual office). For successful intercultural communication, it is necessary to clearly understand cultural diversity and cultural relativism, avoid cultural appropriation, and communicate with carriers of different cultural traditions and social groups for one's cultural enrichment.
