Since the communicative approach has taken the lead in English language teaching, the constant use of conversation and its by-products in almost any type of lesson is turning from a convenient pedagogical tool into a ‘must-include’ speaking activity, irrespective of lesson planning or age group. The leading role of conversation in communication is undisputable nowadays, but the role of it within the English class, either as a second (ESL) or foreign language (EFL), including English for specific purposes (ESP) or academic ones (EAP), is to ensure the students will grasp, use, and recycle, more relevant and authentic language than otherwise. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is not only to define the role of conversation used in classroom as a valuable learning tool, but also to emphasise the role of the participants in conversation-based activities and present possible practical facts about how the teacher could develop successful in-class conversation scenarios that will help the students engage and learn more in a stimulating environment. The teaching intention is to symptomatically decontrol and empower them during the acquisition process of the English language, in the first place, and further on in their careers, as speakers of a non-native language, in the second place.

The present paper sets out to unravel some of the current tendencies in the present-day business correspondence, according to which formal writings appear to greenlight the inflow of linguistic patterns specific to both formal and informal styles. For this purpose, we analyse Romanian and German business letters and pinpoint those constructions which highlight the overlaps between the official and unofficial registers. We thereby conclude that the mixture of tones externalizes in the inadequate combination of salutations and closing forms, in a high degree of subjectivity, reinforced by a strong I-centered approach. Moreover, informality blends into business letters in such a way that it often results in colloquialisms, in rambling and casual formulations, in dramatisations as well as in more profound expressions of emotions.

Communication is the most important feature of language. It shows individual and social characteristics and expresses the information transfer of speakers. There are ways that people need to follow to establish communication, maintain it correctly and effectively, and even terminate it in a healthy way. Politeness is put forward as a type of individual and social dignity and plays an active role in communication. Many studies and theories already exist on this topic Most feature Grice's Principles of Cooperation, and include work by Lakoff, Leech, Brown, and Levinson. They care about protecting the mutual dignity of the two important elements of communication (i.e., the faces of the speaker and the listener), and look out for the benefit and satisfaction of the listener and including strategies for this. Using their research, we wish to propose a new politeness strategy that includes speaker-based, listener-based, speaker and listener-based strategies, as well as questions, as people widely use them to express politeness. We aim to re-categorize Turkish questions by re-evaluating their structure, function and semantics. We propose that pragmatic questions aren’t answered out of function alone – given how closely tied they are with politeness. In doing so, we shall explore various politeness strategies because they are necessary for effective communication – in light of current question theory and observe how Turkish forms (or can form) question-oriented sentences.

Globalization in the early 21st century can be considered as the age of inequality that splits the world into the rich North and the poor South. From the perspective of language politics, only very few discussed the division across the globe, especially, between Eurasia and the “Rest of the world.” In Eurasia, indigenous languages and scripts are used in official capacity, while the same function is fulfilled almost exclusively by non-indigenous (post/colonial) European languages in the Rest of the world. In the countries where they are spoken, non-Eurasian languages have limited presence in the mass media, education, or in cyberspace. This linguistic imperialism par excellence is a long-lasting and pernicious legacy of European (western) colonialism. The aforementioned divide is strongly associated to the use of ethnolinguistic nationalism in state building across many areas of Eurasia, while this ideology is not employed for this purpose outside the region.

In exceptional situations, especially in the context of the health crisis generated by the Covid -19 pandemic, conflict management comes to identify, neutralize, smooth and resolve the medium and long term effects generated by social disputes between both the state and the community, as well as within the community, more precisely between its members. We must not neglect the social effects, but also those of a psychological nature, which are born or were born during and after the pandemic crisis. The obvious consequences of this crisis and its impact on society are missing the top of the iceberg, leaving time to reveal the full effects on civil society, but also on the citizen. Major changes in society, at structural or systemic level are already obvious and irreparable. The normal is redefined and the possible return to this normal is already a desideratum, a real Morgana girl.
