Zakres autonomii nauczyciela w warunkach szkolnych
The literature devoted learner autonomy has been considerably expanded in the last few decades, presenting among other things the findings of empirical studies dealing with the development of autonomy in different contexts. An aspect that is equally worthy of investigation, however, is the development of teacher autonomy. The aim of this paper is to look at the constraints on the autonomy that can be manifested by a foreign language teacher autonomy in an instructional setting. A point of departure for the present discussion is an overview of various definitions of the term autonomy which can be found in the Polish literature on the subject as well as the research conducted in this area. The text also discusses the constraints on the autonomy of teachers working at schools, especially during their teacher training and at the beginning of their work as professional teachers. In the concluding part, it is proposed that the principles of autonomy should be instilled in prospective teacher as part of teacher education.
