Steve’as Fulleris, Josephas Rouse’as Ir Mokslo Legitimacija
The article provides an analysis of a twofold possibility for the political legitimation of science. Fuller’s legitimation project tends to authorize non-epistemic means for the justification of scientific knowledge by accountability to certain social norms and consistency with the ideal of „participatory“ politics. Rouse’s justification of scientific knowledge is the concept of normative accountability of scientific practices. It rejects the Fuller’s idea of the legitimation of science. Fuller’s idea is alien to naturalistic scientific enterprise, which should not be restricted to any universalistic claims or meta-scientific principles. The article assumes that by localizing politics within the level of scientific practices, Rouse’s conception of science reduces the threat to scientific autonomy and authority.
