Тенденции в дисертационната дейност в научно направление 3.1 "Социология, антропология и науки за културата" през последните 35 години. Количествени аспекти

Author(s): Marieta Hristova / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

The text analyses the dissertation activity within professional field 3.1 „Sociology, Anthropology, and Cultural Sciences“ in Bulgaria over the last several decades. A primary focus is placed on changes in academic legislation and their impact on the management and conduct of dissertation defenses following the dissolution of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) in 2010 and the transfer of these functions to individual higher education institutions and scientific institutes. The subject of the study are the quantitative aspects of dissertation activity in the country. The research does not attempt to analyse the preferred issues in the research work of sociologists in the country, nor the quality of their work, which can be noted as limitations of the study. The research is based on a quantitative analysis of administrative data on successfully defended dissertations in professional field 3.1 „Sociology, Anthropology, and Cultural Sciences“ for two periods: 1991 – 2010, when dissertations were defended in front of HAC; and 2011 – 2024, when with the amendments introduced in the Higher Education Act, HAC was closed and the right of defense was transferred to other educational units. The data are taken from the National Register of Academic Staff and the defended dissertations at the National Centre for Information and Documentation (NACID). The analysis reveals an increase in the number of defended doctoral dissertations following the legislative changes, highlighting a successful adaptation to the new regulatory framework. Additionally, attention is paid to the distribution of defended dissertations across scientific units and the activity of academic supervisors and jury members. There is significant engagement from certain academic supervisors and jury members, indicating a substantial influence by a small number of individuals in the process. On the other hand, the participation of external specialists in the evaluation committees facilitates inter-institutional collaboration and the exchange of scientific expertise.

Lecturers were segmented into two groups based on the extent and intensity of their volunteer experience. Various motivations for engaging in volunteer activities were examined and subsequently aggregated into distinct factors. The influence of these motivational factors on actual volunteer engagement is analyzed.

Climate change and environmental pollution are an undeniable fact and the global community is making significant efforts to combat them. International binding treaties are adopted, requiring a number of changes in the fields of energy, transport, industry, but also in the consumption and everyday life of people. The most significant impact on Bulgaria has the package of policies adopted by the European Union, known as the Green Deal. The text discusses public attitudes in Bulgaria towards climate issues and the country‘s commitments, described as a green transition. Based on data from a nationally representative survey, some of the existing problems and points of tension in the country related to the changes imposed by the Green Deal are identified. It is concluded that only in recent months an opportunity to coordinate the positions of politicians and society appears towards implementing a smoother green transition, considering the consequences not only from ecology point of view, but also from that of the economy, the social sphere and security.

This study analyzes the professional realization and academic career advancement of scholars who obtained the scientific degree „Doctor“ in the professional field 3.1 „Sociology, Anthropology, and Cultural Studies“ between 1991 and 2024. Particular emphasis is placed on the changes following the adoption of the Act on the Development of the Academic Staff in the Republic of Bulgaria (ADASRB) in 2010. The analysis relies on data from the National Register of Academic Staff (NACID). Results indicate that the legislative changes of 2010 substantially reduced the time required for scholars to occupy academic positions, particularly among men and those employed at universities. The study also reveals significant gender disparities – women generally take longer to advance academically than men. Statistical data highlight clear differences between universities and research institutions, indicating that university-affiliated researchers achieve career progression more rapidly after legislative amendments.

This report aims to present some of the main issues facing young people‘s consumer behavior. It is motivated by the desire to explore the extent to which young people in Bulgarian society today make economically justified decisions and how they rationalize their consumer choices. The object of the study is young people between the ages of 15 and 29 in Bulgaria, and the subject matter is the rationality in their consumer behavior. The study was conducted by reviewing various theoretical concepts of consumerism and consumer culture, as well as results of empirical research.
