Особенности концептуализации имени собственного публицистическом дискурсе

Особенности концептуализации имени собственного публицистическом дискурсе

Author(s): Anna Zhavoronkova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2021

The article examines the features of the linguistic objectification of names associated with the names of key political persons in the modern Serbian-language publicistic discourse. Such persons are the leading political figures of modern Serbia (president, prime minister, minister of internal affairs, minister of military affairs, etc.), whose names serve as the personification of the country's image. The proper name acts as a conceptual dominant of the media text, the nature of the linguistic objectification of which makes it possible to judge the moods prevailing in the social and political life of the country, the mirror of which is journalism. The semantic structure of a proper name is represented by the personal and professional traits of politicians, which are interpreted by the authors through the categories of the comic; as a result, the political person receives an unflattering, offensive nickname, which, however, takes its place in discourse and continues to be actively replicated.

Образное поле "сердце/душа" в поэтическом тексте (на материале русской поэзии XIX–XX веков)

Author(s): Gigla Dzhyndzholiia / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2024

The article is devoted to the study of the figurative designations heart and soul. For analysis, the author uses metaphors, comparisons and nominal periphrases taken from the works of Russian poets of the 19th–20th centuries. The concept of a figurative field is substantiated, its composition is established, and its system relationships are described. The article considers stable images and ways of their reinterpretation in a number of idiostyles and traces the evolution of tropes. The continuity of some images (fire; water bodies; birds etc.), the weakening and fading of traditional semantic connections (for example, heart/soul — temple) and the emergence of new ones are noted. Semantic connections, only outlined in the poetry of the 19th century, become widespread in the 20th century (heart/soul — music; flora; human; animals, insects, fish). The 20th century sees the emergence of a figurative likening of the soul/heart to a dwelling, a home. The poetry of the 20th century is characterised by reduced associations and depoeticisation of traditionally lofty images.

LAST THOUGHTS ON ALBANIAN AND ARBERESHE

Author(s): John Bassett Trumper / Language(s): English Issue: 02/2022

One of the great debates in the Eighteen and Nineteen Hundreds concerned the question of the validity of the existence of a Balkan ‘Sprachbund’, replacing the earlier substratum theories of Kopitar (1829), Schleicher (1850) and Miklosich (1861, 1870). Without overdisturbing reknowned historical authors such as Meyer, Weigand, or Sandfeld, but taking into reasonable account the numerous contributions of giants in the field such as Çabej, Rosetti and Hamp, one tries to broaden out the field into the problem of ‘Sprachmischung’ and the intricacies of Contact Linguistics. Up to the Nineteen Nineties (see Banfi 1991, Wolf 1995) the ‘special’ relations between the various ‘Balkan Languages’ were considered assessable in terms of nine or ten characteristics which seemed to have many of the properties of structuralism’s distinctive features, namely:…

Emprunts slaves en roumain dans le domaine du vocabulaire des émotions

Author(s): Bilyana Mihaylova / Language(s): French Issue: 24/2024

The article tries to retrace the paths of the semantic development of some Slavic borrowings, which in the history of the Romanian language designate ‘fear’ at different degrees of this emotion: timidity, dread, fear or fright. Five word families have been examined: groază, a se (în)crâncena, scârbă, a se stidi, a se oțărî. As a result of the etymological analysis, various semantic changes have been established. The research on the semantic evolution of the Slavic loanwords in Romanian in the field of emotional vocabulary shows above all that these particular cases reveal the tendency of mixing emotions. The same tendency can be observed when we analyze the autochthonous words from different Indo-European languages.

Author(s): Elena Vladimirovna Generalova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 7/2024

The purpose of the paper is to study the nature and features of semantic diffusivity in the Russian language of the XVI and the XVII centuries. The phenomenon of undifferentiation of several meanings in one context is actively researched on the basis of modern texts and is less studied in diachrony, although this phenomenon is found more frequently in Russian-language historical texts, thus having undoubted specificity. The basis for the study is formed by the Old-Russian-language texts of business and everyday content, in which, during the period of Moscow Rus, the living processes of formation of the future national Russian language took place. The reasons for the frequent phenomenon of diffusivity in the language of the XVI and the XVII centuries are the legacy of the Old Russian language, which was characterized by semantic syncretism, as well as the active process of polysemy formation in this period. A number of manifestations of semantic diffusivity in the Russian language of the XVI and the XVII centuries were identified: contexts with the combinations of insufficiently divergent meanings of future polysemantic words, non-segmentation of the semantic space of words, frequent ambiguity of phraseological units, the polyonymy of lexemes with concrete meaning manifested, on the one hand, through their ability to designate a number of similar objects and, on the other hand, through multiple nominations for specific subjects, the textual nature of synonymy complicated by morphological, word-formation, and lexical variability, the abundance of doublet names, the undifferentiated semantics of original words and derivatives. Thus, semantic diffusivity can be characterized as an essential, basic characteristic of the lexico-semantic system of the Old Russian language, and further consideration of semantic processes in the language of the period of initial formation of the national language is productive from this point of view.

INTERCULTURAL HUMOR: A BRIDGE OR A GAP BETWEEN CIVILIZATIONS?

INTERCULTURAL HUMOR: A BRIDGE OR A GAP BETWEEN CIVILIZATIONS?

Author(s): Andrei-Lucian Marian / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 38/2024

This paper explores the complexity of intercultural humor, highlighting the challenges and opportunities it presents in an increasingly globalized world. Although humor is often considered a universal language, its ability to transcend cultural boundaries is limited by linguistic, social, and cultural differences. The study examines barriers that sometimes impede the understanding and appreciation of humor across different cultures, such as wordplay, cultural references, stereotypes, and the interpretation of various life situations. Additionally, concrete examples of intercultural humor are presented, including international adaptations of comedy series, slapstick humor, and the use of ethnic stereotypes, which demonstrate both commonalities and fundamental differences between cultures. Despite some barriers, intercultural humor can serve as a bridge between people, offering new perspectives and a deeper understanding of cultural diversity. The ability to navigate the complexities of intercultural humor is essential for effective communication and for building harmonious relationships between the world's diverse cultures.

ДО ПИТАННЯ СЕМАНТИКИ МОНУМЕНТАЛЬНОГО ЖИВОПИСУ ЦЕРКВИ СПАСА НА БЕРЕСТОВІ 1643–1644 рр.

Author(s): Alina Kondratiuk / Language(s): Ukrainian Issue: 2/2023

The purpose of the article is to analyse the literature and sources covering the issues of studying the ideological and artistic content of the monumental painting of the Church of the Saviour at Berestove of 1643–1644. The author's main focus is on revealing the semantics of the mural's subjects and interpreting the iconology of the monumental ensemble, which will allow us to determine the place of the monument in the context of the national spiritual and artistic culture of the first half of the seventeenth century. It is planned to characterise the ideological programme of the monumental painting of the Petro Mohyla era and to identify the main accents in the system of paintings. The research methodology is based on the application of a systematic approach, an analytical method, art history, historicalcomparative, historical-genetic, historical-systemic, and descriptive methods for a comprehensive consideration of the given problem and formulate well-founded conclusions. The scientific novelty is characterised by the fact that for the first time, based on a critical analysis of literature and sources, the need for a reliable semantic analysis of the monumental painting of the Church of the Saviour at Berestove of 1643-1644 was identified. Based on a thorough study of the features of the church's painting system, the leading artistic and visual themes are identified and a variant of the interpretation of the iconology of the monumental ensemble of the time of Petro Mohyla is proposed. Conclusions. Summarising, we should note, that in the process of analysing the system of paintings of the Church of the Saviour at Berestove, its integrity and the conditionality of all elements were noted. The nature of the images made it possible to identify the key areas that carry the greatest semantic and dogmatic load. The author identifies the leading theological themes in the system of paintings – the Incarnation and the Eucharistic Sacrifice – and outlines a number of subjects that represent these themes. It is noted that the theme of the Incarnation in Byzantine art acquired special significance after the victory of icon worship. The monumental ensemble of the Church of the Saviour of 1643-1644 was presented as a reminiscence of Macedonian Renaissance art. It was noted that the programmatic archaism of the system of paintings and a specific set of subjects were related to the actual tasks of the spiritual life of the time of Petro Mohyla.

OVIDIU BÎRLEA – THE AESTHETIC APPROACH OF POETIC FOLKLORE

OVIDIU BÎRLEA – THE AESTHETIC APPROACH OF POETIC FOLKLORE

Author(s): Mihaela Sandu (Hură) / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 38/2024

Ovidiu Bîrlea’s preoccupation with the aesthetic value of folklore is a constant of his entire work, both scientific and literary. In his opinion, the simplicity, naturalness, sincerity of emotions conveyed by the popular creator are qualities that the classic literature has not yet matched. The work Folkloric poetics (1979) synthesizes his conceptions about the taste for beauty of the peasant and is a detailed analysis of the various ways in which this taste is manifested in folkloric creation. The research and conclusions of Bîrlea can be considered a proof of the maturity that Romanian folkloristics reached in the second half of the 20th century. The central idea of this research is that the folkloric beauty cannot be understood and appreciated according to the criteria of the classic literature, therefore, it should be approached not by the literary critic, but by the folklorist.

A GENERAL CONVERSATION ON CONLANGS

A GENERAL CONVERSATION ON CONLANGS

Author(s): Ștefan Ghiran / Language(s): English Issue: 38/2024

Constructed languages seem to be what J.R.R. Tolkien names “A Secret Vice” of humanity and have been with us in one form of another for a long time. At the hight of the 19th century the fascination was with finding a universal language, but today they seem to be more prominent due to the media promoting them and at the same time they go unnoticed. Many language creators applied their craft to enrich fictional worlds, their own or otherwise, and in doing so managed to transform this “vice” into an artform where the prefix “art” in “artlang” stands for artistic, no longer for artificial. This article aims to present the history of artificial languages, some of the characteristics that might make such a language successful and attempts to follow the shift from understanding and using language creation as a tool in its previous stages to the artform it is today by combining elements of general linguistics with examples from various crafted languages.

«“Phthonos” and “nemesis” as the emotions of the human mind»

Author(s): Vukan Slavković / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

Understanding of the specific meanings of jealousy and envy differs from culture to culture. Some attitudes indicate how a diverse form of base instincts and thoughts, manifested in jealousy, effects below the level of consciousness. In this article are analysed the motives of jealousy, whose multidisciplinarity reflects in the interpretation of this notion from philosophical, psychological, and sociological aspects. The jealousy of some people can be directed at anything they want: professional interests, their friends, even children. This form of jealousy can be characterised as an aggressive attack that, foremost, leads to the commission of a crime, and it is expressed by using violent methods to shed light on relations. In the context of our research, jealousy remains a field of description of a versatile feeling whose motive initiates a willing process and leads to different consequences. The basic form of jealousy is the excitement of a spirit that is not subjugated by reason but initiates unbridled forms of its manifestation.
