Polityczny oddźwięk Deklaracji o stosunku Kościoła do religii niechrześcijańskich Nostra aetate

Polityczny oddźwięk Deklaracji o stosunku Kościoła do religii niechrześcijańskich Nostra aetate

Author(s): Sylwia Górzna / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2015

The opening of the Catholic Church to dialogue with other religions has its source in the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965), which in many documents expressed the positive attitude of the Catholic Church to non-Christian religions. It was a special landmark event in the history of the Catholic Church. The author presents a conciliatory document, which proposes that the faithful of the Church should establish a dialogue with the followers of different religions to respect the values present in these religions. The Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions Nostra Aetate began the process of the re-orientation of the Church towards the followers of different religions, among others Islam and Judaism, which are based on the belief in one God (monotheism). Particular attention should be paid to item 3 of this Declaration, which emphasizes that the Catholic Church has regard for the followers of Islam and item 4, which contains the formulation of the Jewish responsibility for deicide and raises the painful issue of anti-Semitism, but not for political reasons. Through the Declaration, a lot of Catholics have changed their approach towards the followers of other religions. This document is a testimony confirming the special concern of the Church about establishing friendly relations with the followers of different religions, among others Islam and Judaism. The author is convinced that the document contributes to the peaceful coexistence of religions, which should work towards peace between nations.

Narracja historyczna Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego w Polsce o II wojnie światowej. Przed i po roku 1989

Narracja historyczna Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego w Polsce o II wojnie światowej. Przed i po roku 1989

Author(s): Paweł Stachowiak / Language(s): Polish Issue: 4/2015

The paper tries to present the main motifs of WWII in the official historical narrative of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland. It also illustrates the evolution of this narrative that was especially observable after the political transition of 1989. In order to attain these objectives a conceptual apparatus is applied that has been developed within the framework of academic research into remembrance. The essential conclusions presented in the paper illustrate how the Church referred to the 1939–1945 events in terms of constructing a community of remembrance. Initially, it was constructed by referring to the traditional paradigm of a heroic history and the attempt to make theological sense of warfare. At present, the emphasis in the Church’s interpretation of the war period has changed slightly. This is related to the evolution of the teaching by the Church and the change in how the collective memory of Polish society is functioning. In the conclusions, paradoxes are indicated in the Church’s historical narrative, which can make it either more difficult or impossible to maintain the Church’s role as that of a relatively coherent community of remembrance.

Wielokulturowość w Niemczech. Społeczeństwo w poszukiwaniu nowej wizji w czasach niepewności

Author(s): Stefan Scholz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 24/2014

The author discusses the problem of multiculturalism in German society. He notes that in this society are growing expectations for communication structures, as well as the willingness to communicate. This society needs institutionally empowered and charismatic pontifices maximae, bridge-builders who mediate between cultures. All who unite two or more cultures in the context of the history of life and families, are predisposed to serve the society. The author states that this important ministry in civil society may comply Christians, especially the from Roman Catholic Church, if they take the reflection of the original meaning of their being in the Church. The Church is for the people of the world, and not for itself. In conclusion author points out that multiculturalism challenge of our time is to not only profess Catholicism, and thus multiculturalism, but also to live according to it, starting from their own spheres, and then make these experiences fruitful for society.

Media a totalitaryzm w nauczaniu Jana Pawła II

Media a totalitaryzm w nauczaniu Jana Pawła II

Author(s): Zdzisław Klafka / Language(s): Polish Issue: 25/2015

The article shows that the pontificate of the Pope who was a Slav became a great symbol for the world. As a witness of two totalitarian systems, he showed that any programmatic assault on the basis of morality is a form of totalitarianism thinly disguised under the mask of democracy. John Paul II underscored that following the harmful principle, “think and act as if God does not exist,” is especially present in mass-media. Therefore, there is a great responsibility of media people not to manipulate the truth, because the negation of truths about God, man and society is a source of totalitarianism in all its forms. In his article, the author indicates remedial measures which protect the society against totalitarianism.

Ku filozofii przyjaźni. W dialogu z Platonem, Arystotelesem i św. Teresą od Jezusa

Ku filozofii przyjaźni. W dialogu z Platonem, Arystotelesem i św. Teresą od Jezusa

Author(s): Albert Stanisław Wach / Language(s): English,Polish Issue: 1/2016

The entire text is divided into four chapters, two of which are published in the present issue of Itinera Spiritualia. In Chapter One, historical in its character, all participants of the debate on friendship voice their opinion: firstly, we pose the problem of the condition of friendship in the contemporary culture; secondly, Plato and Aristotle shed light on our problem from the point of view of Greek antiquity and their own philosophies; finally, St Teresa, creating a link between our times and Greek antiquity, provides original and significant input into the understanding of friendship. In Chapter Two, of metaphysical character, only two participants of the friendship debate speak: Plato and St. Teresa. Plato the Philosopher employs a strictly speculative method, but he does not lack mystical experience; Teresa the Mystic shares her personal friendship stories, but not without a substantial and rational metaphysical basis.

Nové perspektívy cyrilo-metodského dedičstva

Nové perspektívy cyrilo-metodského dedičstva

Author(s): Marián Gavenda / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 1/2016

The contribution highlights new current areas in which the Cyrilo-Methodian patrimony appears to be a fruitful source of inspiration. In response to variously manipulated interpretations of the two Thessalonian brothers and their mission, the author offers an interpretive key in order to allow understanding of the personalities and activities of Saints Cyril and Methodius, which is their sense of spiritual mission. In Europe, which now seems to be losing its identity and future, it is useful to revive the roots from which it grew. In the crisis of leadership personalities within the political and social life, the example of St. Constantine-Cyril is an inspiring one: thorough and a broad classical education, deep sensitivity and understanding the relations and patterns of life, personal generosity. Building on the Russian Slavophiles, such as Vladimir Solovyov, and their messianism, the contribution develops the issue of Slovak history meaning and spiritual interpretation, called “the messianism of burning candle”.

Slobodné konanie a vedecké metódy skúmania

Slobodné konanie a vedecké metódy skúmania

Author(s): Ľuboš Rojka / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 3/2015

Experience of free decision-making is, according to D. Pereboom, illusory, because there is no evidence of a change of the probabilities predicted from the observation of the brain activity. P. van Inwagen, for similar reasons, declares free will agency unknowable. The probabilistic models used by Pereboom a van Inwagen are limited. For an evidence about the influence of free will on human life, one needs to go into the field of scientific psychology. The goal of scientific methods in psychology is similar to empirical methods, and there are four important elements in their research: the description of the events, prediction of the future events, explanation of the causal relations among these events, and application of the acquired knowledge to improvement of human life. These four individual steps can demonstrate objectively observable influence of the libertarian free will on human behavior

Sufizam i medicina

Sufizam i medicina

Author(s): Senella Krehić-Fočak / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 70/71/2016

The paper discusses the relationship between Sufism and medicine. Firstly, it presents historical facts related to the understanding and the role of Persian physicians in the Golden Age of Arabic medicine. The relationship between medicine and Sufism is viewed through a concise description of Ibn Sinan’s vast medical-philosophical opus and specific examples in verses from Masnavi, where Ibn Sina and Galen were mentioned with a brief reminder on the content of major work The Canon of Medicine. In Çahar Makala (Four Discourses) the emphasis is on the broad education of physicians and briefly on recalling the concepts of ethics and deontology of this age. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of more spiritual approach to correlating science and spirituality by using a body of work that Ibn Sina left behind and his role through the examples mentioned in the spiritual work as it is Masnavi, in which he tries to encourage spiritual potential and avoid larpurlartism in transmitting comments of his works. Through a case study, it is possible to profile the relationship between Sufism and medicine, as well as to profile a concept in which contrary views achieve a complete view of the spiritual and the practical component of medical science in the medieval period, whether it is about Eastand West or soul and body. This concept is consequently applicable to modern views in terms of the history of science and health education as well as treatment in general.

Viața spirituală și ethosul misionar în închisorile comuniste. Studiu de caz:Închisoarea Târgu-Ocna între anii 1950-1953

Author(s): Dragos-Dumitru Ursu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 3/2015

At the beginning of the 1950s, the Târgu Ocna sanatorium prison represented a place of spiritual recovery for the prisoners that had passed through the hell of the Pitești re-education. Using the knowledge and the mystical experience gained in the Aiud penitenciary during the Antonescu period (the beginning of the 1940s), prisoners Ioan Ianolide, Valeriu Gafencu and Gheorghe Jimboiu became a focus point of spiritual life for the other prisoners at Târgu Ocna. Solidarity, cultural effervescence and spiritual effort accompanied by the practice of the Prayer of the Heart individualized the prison of Târgu Ocna within the memory of the Romanian Gulag. Using archive sources (individual files from the Archive of the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives), along with memoralistic literature, the paper proposes to radiograph the spiritual life of the Târgu Ocna political prisoners within the larger context of spiritual resistance to communism. Transfiguration of suffering, detachment from the political struggle and the complete assumption of the spiritual warfare have defined the „resistance through faith” of the imprisoned.

La congregation de l’Oratoire de Jésus de France connait-elle la crise? Approche multiscalaire (1650–1700)

Author(s): Estelle Martinazzo,Kevin Saule / Language(s): French Issue: 7/2015

The Congregation of the Oratory of Jesus, a symbol of the Catholic Reformation and representative of the French School of spirituality, was created in France at the beginning of the 17th century, on the initiative of Pierre de Berulle. Firmly established in its 70 houses through the kingdom, the congregation appears, at first sight, to have remained unaffected by the hazards of financial crises, although some houses did know a sort of financial distress. The aim of the paper is to offer a bird’s eye view of the Oratory by examining the records of deliberations of the Council and its central administration, kept in the National Archives, and to explore the situation in the northern part of the kingdom. The second part of the paper is devoted to the complex situation of the House of Toulouse and the three phases of the crisis which took place there.

La economía del cabildo de Santiago de Compostela: crisis y problemas de gestión (1780–1834)

La economía del cabildo de Santiago de Compostela: crisis y problemas de gestión (1780–1834)

Author(s): Ofelia Rey Castelao / Language(s): Spanish Issue: 7/2015

The author of the article discusses the economic crisis of the chapter of the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela from 1780 to 1834. The chapter was one of the most important ecclesiastical institutions in Spain; its economy was based on a medieval offering, the Voto de Santiago. This source of revenue had legendary origins: the Battle of Clavijo of 844. The Voto was paid by the peasants of the Crown of Castile: this explains the enormous wealth of the chapter. Nevertheless, from 1780 the peasants were opposed to paying the Voto. In addition, agricultural production in Spain was beset by problems at the time. This marked the beginning of a major economic crisis for the chapter. The author of the article examines the strategies of the chapter of Santiago to solve its economic problems and the difficulties with coming up with an effective solution.

FRAZEOLOGIA W BIBLII. BIBLIA WE FRAZEOLOGII JĘZYKA POLSKIEGO

Author(s): Stanisław Koziara / Language(s): Polish Issue: 05/2016

This paper is an attempt at describing selected aspects of the part of Biblical heritage that concerns established word combinations the nature of which is idiomatic. The author perceives this class of Biblisms in broader categories than the type and scope traditionally assigned to them among established and conventionalised units of language. The study demonstrates a dual approach. On the one hand, it points to the origin and status of this type of units within a canonical text, while on the other hand, it concerns the paths along which they permeate, the forms of their presence and functioning in both old and contemporary translations of the Bible into Polish and in the area of various variants of Polish (general, literary, colloquial, media). The approach presents the results of the author’s own research in a synthetic manner and refers to the present state of research on the issues discussed in this paper.
