The article outlines and describes the external and internal aspects of the Christian initiation programme in the fourth-century Jerusalem, and some of the peculiarities in comparison with other catechumenate programmes of the time. The external aspects include certain rituals and ceremonies, catechetical teachings, exorcisms, the celebration of the liturgy, the reading of the Scriptures, fasting, prayer and night vigils.
