In August 2005, President Saakashvili of Georgia and President Yushchenko of Ukraine met at Borjomi, Georgia, and decided to launch an initiative to promote democracy among a community of like-minded states of Central and Eastern Europe. This led to a meeting in Kyiv on 2 December 2005, of a wider group of countries of the Baltic-Black-Caspian Sea region, which adopted a declaration announcing the creation of a Community of Democratic Choice (CDC) as a governmental and non-governmental forum to promote the strengthening of democracy, human rights and civil society. The next meeting of the CDC will take place as a Baltic and Black Sea Summit in Vilnius in May 2006.

The Hidden Economy in Bulgaria (Business sector survey), March 2003

The March survey of the "hidden economy" in the business sector covered 537 companies accross the country. It involved an expanded sample comprising another joint-stock companies. To ensure proper comparative analysis, the main conclusions in the present paper are based on data excluding the added joint-stock companies, i.e. covering 437 companies. Fieldwork took place in the period february 28 - March 24, 2003. The survey employed the method of the face-to-face interview.

The report presents the main findings on the level of corruption and attitudes to corruption. The analysis is based on a national sampling (n = 421) survey among owners of business organizations in Bulgaria and / or their managers. Future Perspectives of U.S.-Czech Relations

In the area of security, the Czech Republic and the U.S. should build closer cooperation around President Obama’s Prague Agenda, NATO Ballistic Missile Defense project and in the field of post-conflict reconstruction while working together to mitigate obstacles to constructive NATO-EU relations In economic relations, they should enhance cooperation taking full advantage of the Strategic Dialogue framework both in terms of discussing global and transatlantic trade issues, and in boosting bilateral commerce Regarding values, they should cooperate more on democratic transition in Eastern Europe, including through the framework of Eastern Partnership in which the U.S. should become involved The United States and the Czech Republic are bound together by shared values, history, and global political, security and economic interests. In the words of Ambassador Eisen at Institute of International Relations, they are bound in a “permanent friendship”. The Czech Republic has seen the U.S. as a liberal power and the key contributor to security in the Euratlantic area. The United States could rely on Czech contribution towards promotion of human rights and freedoms and responding to the serious threats the Transatlantic community has faced in the recent past.

Ove reči, koje je na promociji monografije istoričara Srđana Cvetkovića Između srpa i čekića 2. Politička represija u Srbiji 1953-1985 (Beograd, 2011) izgovorio reditelj Lazar Stojanović, vrlo ilustrativno ukazuju na banalnost revizionističkog narativa. Iz navedenog možemo zaključiti da Stojanović inkriminiše činjenicu da je predsednik kvislinške vlade Milan Nedić umro u prisustvu vlasti, pri čemu možemo razumeti da Stojanović sluti kako su komunisti Nedića ubili zbog toga što je bio „debeo čovek“.

The weakening of the EU gravitational pull leaves a power vacuum in the region that is readily filled in by authoritarian powers such as Russia and China. They are taking advantage of the democratic backsliding and the widespread state capture among dysfunctional institutions to expand their economic and political influence. This policy brief zooms in on Russia estimating its economic footprint in Southeastern Europe following the imposition of EU and US sanctions in 2014 and showcases the most important elements of the Russian strategy in the region. Russian economic influence has declined since the imposition of U.S. and EU sanctions in 2014, but Russian companies still control between 5 and 10% of the regional economy, including strategic companies such as the largest refineries, fuel distribution networks, gas transmission and storage facilities, telecoms and retail chains. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has amplified its influence and yielded sharp power in the region through employing all instruments from its playbook, such as supporting mainstream and fringe political parties, employing media, cultural and religious ties, sponsoring civil society activities, and pulling former security services’ strings.
