„Kłopotliwe” ciała. Strategie przedstawiania fizycznej „anormalności” we współczesnym filmie fikcji

Author(s): Adam Cybulski / Language(s): Polish

Within disability studies, discipline developing for the last thirty years, subject of particular interest were audio-visual representations of physical ‘abnormality’. However, in scientific literature it is storyline and generally understood occurrences that are analysed: personal traits of disabled protagonist, his or her social status, actions, introspections or his or her relationship with the society. The question of stylistic and narration devices, and the aesthetics of display-oriented construction of defectiveness are usually not taken into consideration. In order to add to and broaden this perspective author of this dissertation used selected methods of Neoformalism and Cognitive film theory. Strategy of narration, diegetic dominant and viewer engagement helped in exhibiting how defective bodies were used as visual attractions, distinguishing four modes of contemporary storytelling discussed in context of a long tradition of portraying visible dissimilarities and explaining methods of managing ‘troublesome’ bodies with instances of narrating.

Aleksander Wat. JA z jednej strony i JA z drugiej strony mego mopsożelaznego piecyka

Author(s): Krystyna Pietrych / Language(s): Polish

The publication, according to Krystyna Pietrych’s original concept, consists of the following parts: the introduction, Between Parody and Prophecy, presenting the most important interpretative tropes of the poem; facsimiles of Pug Iron Stove (JA z jednej strony i JA z drugiej strony mego mopsożelaznego piecyka) from 1920, a modernized edition of the Stove together with an editorial commentary and footnotes, the version of the poem published in Ciemne świecidło (1968), and the text A Bit on the “Stove” (Coś niecoś o “Piecyku”), which is Wat’s authorial commentary on the early work. Illustrations by Wojciech Grabowski provide a special complement to the whole work. They are the result of many years of the artist’s fascination with the extraordinary poem and a suggestion of its visual interpretation. The book as a whole offers a contextual and multifaceted reading of one of the most enigmatic texts of Polish Modernism.

Apokryficzność i ekfrastyczność jako komplementarne poetyki intertekstualne

Author(s): Julia Dynkowska / Language(s): Polish

The thesis The Apocryphal and the Ekphrastic as a Complementary Intertextual Poetics discusses the relation of the ekphrastic and apocryphal components in various ekphrastic texts based on the visual works of art. The dissertation is divided into 4 analytical chapters preceded by the theoretical introduction in which the categories of apocryphon and ekphrasis are presented. Furthermore, in this section two types of apocryphal and ekphrastic complementarities are proposed (apocryphal ekphrases/apocryphal ekphrastic texts and ekphrastic apocrypha). Examples of those complementarities are presented, analyzed and interpreted in the following sections. The intention behind the analysis in aforementioned sections is to prove the usefulness of category of an apocryphon in the ekphrastic studies. ‘The apocryphal’ provides suggestive conceptualization of animations and narrative augmentations of paintings and photographs inscribed in the ekphrases. What is more, there is an essential feature which connects all of the texts presented in this paper – each of them concerns the loss of ‘innocent look’ at the visual pre-texts, ways of thinking produced by them, canonical interpretations and idealizations of works of art, their authors and captured scenes or figures. Apocryphal-ekphrastic rewriting enables canonical artworks to be seen not only as aesthetical, but also (perhaps above all) ethical objects.

Efekty obciążeń regulacyjnych i fiskalnych sektora bankowego dla akcji kredytowej banków przed pandemią COVID-19 i w trakcie jej trwania

Author(s): Iwona Dorota Czechowska,Czesław Lipiński,Jacek Sikorski,Joanna Stawska,Wojciech Zatoń / Language(s): Polish

The publication is a monograph describing comprehensively the issue of regulatory and fiscal burdens on the banking sector and their consequences for the level of loans, in the time perspective before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a compendium of knowledge in the field of broadly understood finance, about the nature and mechanisms of the functioning of external burdens on the banking sector and related problems. The authors attempt to present this type of regulation in the context of the security and financial stability of the banking system, as well as in a broader perspective of the financial system. They present the current (as of 2021) burden, paying attention to specific instruments of fiscal and regulatory policy. Using the econometric model, they operationalize the main objective of the study, which is to determine and analyze the impact of external burdens on the lending potential of the banking sector, as well as an attempt to identify base scenarios. Previous studies have rarely attempted to combine regulatory and fiscal requirements in the context of, among other things, an in-depth analysis of the requirements for NPL Non-Performing Loans. Monothematic publications focused on a narrow approach to this type of external load prevailed. The originality of this publication is the collection of information on regulatory and fiscal requirements for the banking sector, and especially the presentation of this issue during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is one of the first items that comprehensively address this type of issue. Its advantage is the multifaceted nature of the issues described.

Finansjalizacja wybranych rynków surowcowych na świecie

Author(s): Marcin Złoty / Language(s): Polish

Financialization transforms the existing rights, directions and rules of functioning of many levels of the economy, including the commodity market. The activity of investors in the futures market from the beginning of the 21st century began to determine the trends in prices of commodities. Implementation of solutions and instruments of the financial market to the structure of the commodity market is the contemporary dimension of the financialization of this area. The study covered the impact of financial investors on the commodity futures market on the development of spot prices of five analyzed assets – gold, silver, copper, WTI crude oil and natural gas. The analysis of the impact of the futures market factors on the current market, carried out using the Granger causality method, is aimed at determining the order of interactions between both levels of trading. The current trends and transformations of the commodity market show the constant transformation of the entire world economy, which is becoming increasingly dependent on financial systems and instruments.

Franczyza w procesie tworzenia wartości przedsiębiorstwa franczyzodawcy na przykładzie branży gastronomicznej

Author(s): Żaklina Jabłońska / Language(s): Polish

The book is an important contribution to the scientific discussion on the development of franchising in Poland. It highlights the significance of franchising in building the value of an enterprise. Polish companies generally seek the benefits of franchising as franchisees, adopting a tried business model that guarantees an easier entry into the market as well as a lower bankruptcy risk. Franchise enterprises are able to create their value in a definitely shorter period of time (gaining market share, a recognizable brand, loyal customers, more favorable purchasing terms). However, a gap exists in the Polish scientific literature when it comes to the influence of franchising on the value of the franchisor’s enterprise. Relevant research in this area has been in short supply. Therefore, there is an obvious need to address this omission by studying the phenomenon, conducting necessary analyses and presenting the existing mechanisms. The results of this research constitute a valuable source of information both for scientists and professionals interested in the implementation of franchising in business.

Godny pożądania stan świadomości. O przyjemności jako wartości ostatecznej

Author(s): Katarzyna de Lazari-Radek / Language(s): Polish

The book covers and further develops an extensive discussion in analytical philosophy over the past 30 years, especially in Great Britain and the USA, around the topic of well-being, value and pleasure. The subject matter ensures that it will interest a broad audience, beyond academic circles. The basic thesis of the work is that the feeling of pleasure, understood as desirable consciousness, is a value in itself. Dr de Lazari-Radek provides a contemporary defense of hedonism, taking into account not only philosophical but also neuroscientific and psychological arguments. The book consists of two parts. In the first, the author discusses notions of good/ultimate good and well-being as well as two leading theories of well-being: desire-based theory and perfectionism. She presents a broad range of views held by contemporary philosophers such as Derek Parfit, Roger Crisp, Bernard Williams, Ruth Chang, Martha Nussbaum, and Thomas Hurka, while ultimately rejecting both theories. The second part is entirely devoted to defending hedonism, which involves offering a new definition of the concept of pleasure. A novel feature of the argument is the use of recent findings in psychological and neurobiological research, in addition to philosophical arguments. This is the first book in Poland devoted to a defense of hedonism as a theory of value, and one of very few dealing from a philosophical perspective with the issue of human well-being and what it is to live a good life.

Język(i) w czasie i przestrzeni

Author(s): Lena Grzesiak / Language(s): Polish

Internal audit is an interdisciplinary concept, well-established in management theory and practice theory. Internal auditors are required to be independent and objective, but the nature of internal audit activities necessitates relations with other groups of employees who also have a role in internal audit – auditees and managers. The three groups differ in the way they understand their organisation, internal audit, and its effectiveness. The main purpose of this monograph is to identify factors in the effectiveness of internal audit related to the human capital of the three main groups of its participants: internal auditors, auditees, and managers. The empirical qualitative study was carried out by the author using various data collection techniques, the most important of which was interviews with 65 internal auditors, auditees, and managers representing organisations in the public and private sectors. The study has shown that for internal audit to be effective, support from the management (tangible and intangible), the understanding of internal audit in the organisation, and relationships between the groups engaged in internal audit are important. Using her findings, the author formulates recommendations for improving internal audit effectiveness. They can also provide a basis for making changes to the existing occupational and organisational practices. The monograph can be summed up by the opinion of one of the surveyed internal auditors: “the effectiveness of internal audit has to do with people […]. This fact is so obvious that it is frequently forgotten by most stakeholders”.

Narodziny medium. Gry wideo w polskiej prasie hobbystycznej końca XX wieku

Author(s): Dominika Staszenko-Chojnacka / Language(s): Polish

This book describes the phenomenon of creating gamer’s identity in Poland and specific gamer’s habitus which started forming itself in the second half of the 1980s through the articles published in computer magazines. Until the fall of the communist regime video games in Poland had been on the sidelines. The situation began to change after 1989 when access to computers, games and software was much easier than it used to be. As a result, there was a need for magazines devoted only to games. Publication includes description of how journals from the 1990s created players discourse and what consequences it had. It contains an analysis of specific writing style and language used by editors who created terms and names of genres later used by gamers. In this context it is worth mentioning that in that time specific types of articles emerged. Among them were reviews and walkthrough, which allowed practice of ‘reading’ games, that’s why people without access to new interactive medium learned about it through magazines. The first chapter presents the methodology of the research, using the concept of habitus, field and cultural capital by Pierre Bourdieu, as well as analyzes carried out by Graeme Kirkpatrick and Jaakko Suominen, who described how British and Finnish magazines influenced the formation of a specific discourse on video games. The relationship between the content of video game magazines and their influence on the development of the broadly understood game culture was also discussed. This book also includes a commentary on the differences between the gaming press published in Western Europe and Polish magazines created during the political transformation. It also focuses on issue of stereotypes connected with games and gamers, who formed some kind of subculture.

Opieka nad dzieckiem w Polsce międzywojennej. Robotnicze Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci – Oddział Łódzki (1923–1939)

Author(s): Joanna Sosnowska / Language(s): Polish

The work is a historical-pedagogical monograph, a first attempt at the reconstruction and assessment of the operations of the Łódź Division of the Worker’s Society of Children’s Friends (Robotnicze Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci – RTPD) established in Łódź in 1923 on the initiative of activists from the Polish Socialist Party (Polska Partia Socjalistyczna). The book presents the varied and rich operations of that organization in the area of care, education, and health prevention, addressed mainly at children from working families, in 1923–1939. The sources on which the work is based include, most of all, unique archive materials and journals. The book describes issues related to living conditions, health care, child upbringing, and child education. The work structure shows three main analysis layers. The first one consists of general issues concerning care of poor children and presents financial, educational, and health conditions of adults and the discussed population of children in interwar Poland. The second one characterises social institutions and organizations supporting thedevelopment of children and their families; most of all, it discusses the operations of the Workers’ Society of Children’s Friends in Poland in 1919-1939. The third area of interest, in line with the title of the work, is the work of the Łódź Division of RTPD in 1923-1939. Photos illustrate the issues discussed in the monograph and present activists from the Łódź Division.

Pedagogiczne implikacje teorii dezintegracji pozytywnej Kazimierza Dąbrowskiego

Author(s): Dominik Chojnowski / Language(s): Polish

In this book I analyze Kazimierz Dąbrowski’s theory of positive disintegration with special regard to its pedagogical implications to modern social science. Although this concept gained recognition in the world of science, its reception is being undertaken mainly outside of borders of our country. It deals with the subject of ontogenetic development of human. In the background of other theories of this type it stands out, for it understands large part of mental disorders, especially neuroses and psychoneurosis, in a positive way. Hence it defines mental health and mental illness in a different way. It states that part of mental disorders disintegrating ones psyche have crucial meaning for acceleration of ones development. This way of thinking this theory also transfers to area of issues concerning education, especially issue of talented students and how educational methods affect them. This results with extensive pedagogical implications. The main aim of this work is to show original concept of prominent Polish scholar in educational context. I search for an answer to a question whether its application in pedagogics and education is beneficial as opposed to its being obsolete and not fit to be used. Research method that I use in this book is hermeneutic analysis of Dąbrowski’s works based on interpretation and understanding of his texts as objectified cultural sources. Therefore I analyze author of positive disintegration works and I bring out these contents that give me insight into his understanding of educational and social issues and how they fit into todays social sciences and educational practice.

Pedagogika przedszkolna z metodyką

Author(s): Wiesława Leżańska,Elżbieta Płóciennik / Language(s): Polish

"Pre-School Pedagogy with Methodology" is a monograph dedicated mostly to students preparing for a job of pre-school teachers. Pre-school pedagogy – as a subdiscipline of pedagogy – is its detailed extension with the issues related to pre-school child education. That is why this book includes the elements of canonical and instrumental knowledge guiding the conceptual choices of future pre-school teachers. The book may also become an introduction for parents to the education of their child, and it can expand and structure the knowledge of existing teachers. The basic and necessary knowledge for this group of readers is the history of pre-school upbringing and educational thinking, presenting the process of evolution of the theory of pre-school pedagogy and practice of pre-school upbringing. Also the rudiments of pre-school upbringing and chapters discussing the subject of pre-school pedagogy research (managing child development, teacher competences, environmental features) belong to canonical knowledge of this pedagogical subdiscipline. A major part of the book is the methodological part, including practical knowledge in the scope of various educations, pre-school diagnosis, and organisation of pre-school space. The structure of the monograph thus includes six parts, related to one another. The content is also enriched with references to useful literature exploring the discussed topics, thanks to which the readers can further extend their knowledge in this scope. The authors’ intention is also to awaken their reflective thinking. That is why, besides questions and instructions consolidating the contents, for each topic there are questions and instructions that allow for the presented theoretical material to be used for problem solving and practical activities. The perception of rich subject content is facilitated due to the surnames and subjects’ index. Additionally, the readers can supplement and improve their use of pedagogical terminology in English, thus also preparing for reading pedagogical publications in this language.

The monograph can be summed up by the opinion of one of the surveyed internal auditors: “the effectiveness of internal audit has to do with people […]. This fact is so obvious that it is frequently forgotten by most stakeholders”.

Sibi, suisque et Patriae ornamento. Fundacje artystyczne Koniecpolskich w XV – XVII wieku

Author(s): Zbigniew Bania / Language(s): Polish

The subject of the book is a study of the artistic patronage, with emphasis on architectural investments, of the Koniecpolski family. Published studies of the magnate's patronage of old Poland were usually limited to selected individuals, such as Elżbieta Sieniawska or Jan Klemens Branicki, or to members of one generation of the magnates, such as the Pacas family in the 17th century or the Radziwiłłs in the 18th century. The activities of the representatives of the Koniecpolski family are presented, with an extensive presentation of the undertakings of their most prominent figures at the time: Przedbor and Jan Koniecpolski, Chancellor of the Polish Kingdom in the mid-15th century. The history of the family in the sixteenth century provides an introduction to a discussion of the patronage of Anna Koniecpolska and, above all, the numerous undertakings, both in Central Poland and in the Borderlands, of the most eminent representative of the family in the seventeenth century, Grand Crown Hetman Stanisław Koniecpolski. The book ends by presenting the artistic realisations of the last representatives of the family, whose history is closed by the death of Jan Aleksander Koniecpolski in 1719. The artistic foundations discussed in the book have been subjected to a detailed formal analysis, and the history of these undertakings has been presented in the context of the political, social and economic changes in the Kingdom of Poland and the Polish Nobility from the early fifteenth to the late seventeenth century.
