“Art Therapy for Children and Adolescents. Class Scenarios” can provide valuable help for teachers, educators, methodologists, art therapists as well as for students of various pedagogical specialties, artistic education and art therapy. This publication can be used as a guidebook by everyone who conducts different groups of classes and is looking for simple and attractive methods of work that induce the joy of creating in the participants and increase the effectiveness of creative activities. The book consists of two parts. The first has a theoretical and introductory character – it serves to expand and systematize one’s knowledge about art therapy. The second part contains scenarios of classes with photographic documentation, included in three thematic blocks: Senses, Four Seasons and Interactions. The participants of the workshops can be preschool and school children as well as high-school students.

The next volume in the series “The Balkans in the 20th and 21st Centuries” presents an overview of issues related to contemporary Bosnia and Herzegovina. Each chapter covers a distinct thematic area: culture, literature, language and politics. The publication has been intended to provide a repository of knowledge about the federal state formed after the bloody breakup of Yugoslavia. The collection of studies paints a detailed picture of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Investigated from an external perspective, the phenomena occurring in the literature of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as issues related to language or to the political and economic conditions reveal the mental burden caused by the tragic war of the twentieth century’s last decade – in a country that structurally remains an immutable ethnic and cultural borderland. On the other hand, from the Bosnian authors' internal perspective, the analyses relate to the present as well as the distant past, uncovering the topics of the Ottoman heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina that were suppressed or censored during the “brotherhood and unity” period of the federal Yugoslavia. Determinants of operational budgeting success in manufacturing enterprises

The book aims to measure and evaluate the use/success of operational budgeting in Polish companies and to identify and measure the determinants of success, based on the suggested model. It focuses mainly on: (a) the role of operational budgeting in the process of managing a company, (b) the variables that influence how the use/success of operational budgeting is assessed, to present factors that determine individual variables, and to identify the relationships and links between them, and (c) a model that helps to measure and evaluate the use/success of operational budgeting. This book tries to fill the knowledge gap on the quality and benefits that arise from well-designed Operational Budgeting Systems. To get benefits, it is necessary to assess the current budget system. With that, the author reduces ambiguity about assessing the use of operational budgeting. The author limits her approach to the production sector and Poland. Still, I believe this approach can be expanded across the sectors and countries. Therefore, I see a relevant contribution in practice. Also, it opens the way and shows directions to diagnosing and improving firms’ Operational Budgeting Systems. This publication is commendable; it puts traditional budgeting – which has been highly criticized into context and presents its value, role, and its contribution in a Control System. In response to those criticisms, the author points to the quality aspect of operational budgeting, showing its usefulness to users and organizations. We have made philosophy and literature the subject of our intellectual research, because they, apart from religion, also claim the right to an intellectual and artistic exploration of the experience of spirituality. Therefore, we discuss the experience of spirituality in a philosophical and literary context. We did not want to reconstruct any theory that would free the object under study from the unknowability and ambiguity attributed to it by the interpretative tradition. Our intention is much more modest: we want to talk about the experience of spirituality in two languages: the philosophical and the literary. The first part of the book is therefore characterized by a greater degree of generality of the formulated considerations, whereas the second part focuses on the analysis of the literary experience of spirituality, i.e on its artistic visualizations. First of all, we write about a certain significant potential of literature, which manifests itself in transcending its narrowly understood poetic function. It boils down to the will to artistically grasp a category that has always been associated with religion and philosophy – spirituality and its experience. Grembach – etnograficzny przewodnik po łódzkim osiedlu

“Grembach. An Ethnographic Guide to a Łódź Housing Estate” in Łódź is the first such detailed presentation of an area of Łódź that has not yet been the subject of a dedicated study. The name Grembach refers to the workers' housing estate established towards the end of the 19th century in the then village of Widzew located on the outskirts of Łódź. Life in the Grembach was associated above all with the sewing thread factory built there which offered people work, flats in the factory housing estate and organized their leisure time. In the guidebook, we take the reader on a tour around the estate where workers once built “their” world. Its existing image has been reconstructed on the basis of photographs, archival documents and the memories of several generations of residents. We follow the footprints left behind by Grembach workers which transport us back in time to what was once here. We trace recollections of the past couched in historical accounts to recreate the lives of workers in the interwar period and in the years of the Polish People's Republic (PRL).

New media, processes of convergence or the ongoing changes in internet communication form the inspiration behind the observation of new forms of message combined with internet adaptations of genres. The dynamic development of visual communication in the media raises questions about the role of text in multimedia and graphic communication, of whether images are usurping words, and also whether visual messages appeal exclusively to the aesthetics of the experience or of they also supplement the effectiveness of the message. These and other questions led to research the new journalistic genre – infographics. Demonstrating the trends and phenomena that pass unnoticed on a surface reading of such materials made it possible to present and analyse a variety of graphic types, also considering the phenomenon of image manipulation. The study of specific examples helps here.The multifaceted nature of infographics concludes with a description and definition of infographics as a journalistic genre. This is illustrated by an analysis of examples from selected media – both press and Internet. To this end, three varieties of print media were chosen – tabloid, national Polish daily and monthly periodical. In the analysis of internet websites, a comparison of the two, largest Polish horizontal portals – WP.pl and Onet.pl as well as a specialist vortal which deals with data journalism – BIQdata.pl. Both analyses lead to the conclusion that infographics in journalism is an important element of multi-modal narration, a genre which is a consistent element in media design, increasing the attractiveness of newspapers and internet sites.

Jędrzej Moraczewski. Wspomnienia. Ludzie, czasy i zdarzenia. Część pierwsza. Młodość i praca inżynierska. Tom 2. Lata 1895–1900

The second volume of the first part of Jędrzej Moraczewski's Memories covers the years 1895–1900. The author takes readers to the Galician province, where he lived with his wife, Zofia Moraczewska née Gostkowska. Their first years together were a period of frequent relocations entailed by the nature of engineer Moraczewski's work on the construction of state railways. In Memories, the author portrayed the people he met – both those directly influencing him as well as others, widely known in Galicia at that time due to the position they held or to their social or political activity. Compared to the previous volume, reports from the life of a young, intellectual couple, struggling with everyday problems, prevail here. There are also descriptions of provincial entertainment and ways of spending free time – cycling and sightseeing trips, social meetings, performances by amateur theaters and attempts to animate the local social elite which included the Moraczewski family.

When recommending our joint, pioneering effort, we hope that the content will not only pique our readers’ interest, but will also engender further reflection and study as well as encourage active involvement in deliberations naturally expected in the field of science.

La réforme du droit des contrats en France – réflexions de juristes européens

The monograph, inspired by the reform of contract law in France, is a collection of texts written by outstanding academics from France, Germany, Poland and Switzerland. The first part of the book sets the stage by presenting the most important changes introduced into the French Civil Code. Those modifications become the starting point for subsequent deliberations regarding their influence on the development of both German and Polish contract law. The second part of the publication contains an analysis of the French concept of ‘imprévision’, followed by a presentation of the aforementioned doctrine in the German and Swiss law as well as of the corresponding concept of clausula rebus sic stantibus in Polish law. The third part of the book contains considerations on the application of contract theory in other areas of law, which is of vital importance in legal practice.

In times of rapid technological change, enthusiasts of the new often subscribe to the theory of “supersession,” the idea that newer technologies supersede or vanquish older ones. But as scholar of information Paul Duguid has observed, reality is mare interesting and complicated than that. In the 1950s, for instance, when television was becoming popular, there were widespread predictions of radio’s imminent demise. Yet here it is2015 and radio is not only very much a live but has thrown off vibrant digital doppelgängers of itself, in the form of internet radio stations and podcasts. So it goes for all of human culture: There is really no predicting where it will go next.As the articles in this collection make clear, this is especially true of writing in our time, when old and new, on-line and off-line, are mixing, mashing up and recombining so prolifically, no single theory could ever explain it all, let alone foretell its evolution. So it’s fitting that what we have in this volume is not a collection of definitive, supersession-like answers, but a multiplicity of fascinating questions explored in depth. Are microblogs a new literary genre? What happens when Japanese haiku leap across cultures? Is writing inherently an act of individuality, as we tend to believe, or is that idea just “a fruit of modernity”? Such questions will swirl around us for decades to come, and to make our way forward we will need intellectual roadmaps with the wide-ranging curiosity, et al.

Sport w Polsce międzywojennej. Działalność oświatowa stowarzyszeń sportowych w Łodzi

In that book were described law, political and economic conditions of functioning of the sports associations in Poland, in particular in Lodz. However, the most important part of the dissertation are the educational contexts of the Polish sport organizations in the city of Lodz. There is no studies in this research subject so far. Many researchers ignored the beyond sports activities of the Polish sports clubs, to concentrated only sports facts. The dissertation can be an important point of reference in this specific of subject matter.

Standardy etyczne obsługi klientów w ocenie obecnych i przyszłych doradców bankowych

The publication focuses on the determinants of ethical attitudes and differences in the way they are perceived by both present and future banking advisors. Based on the analysis of the conditions of ethical attitudes of banking advisors, factors determining the respect for ethical standards have been identified, and as a consequence the differences in the perception of the analyzed conditions have been examined. The analysis included the following variables: fear of worsening of professional situation on the labor market, fear of marginalization of a position in the team, a belief in non-compliance with ethical standards by bank advisors, a tendency to unconditionally comply with ethical standards in customer relations, as well as a trend to transfer responsibility for financial decisions to the customer. The conclusions that readers can possibly draw from the analysis of ethical attitudes of banking advisors from the perspective of both present and future banking advisors may largely contribute not only to the improvement of universities’ curricula, but also of training programs for employees of banking institutions. This may also help to strengthen respect for ethical standards in the banking sector.

Strategia sukcesji władzy i własności w spółkach rodzinnych notowanych na Giełdzie Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie

The purpose of this publication was to diagnose the process of managerial and ownership succession in Polish family businesses listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. It is, to the best of the author’s knowledge, the first such study in the field of planning and implementing the intergenerational transfer of management functions and ownership, which applies only to family businesses whose shares are the subject of trade on the capital market in Poland. The subject is all the more important given that the process of first generational change in key management positions has already started in many Polish family businesses listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Additionally, within the context of the existing subject literature, planning and implementing the first succession strategy is particularly important for family entities and as such is bound to be associated with a higher level of risk than the subsequent intergenerational transfers. This publication is theoretical and empirical, and consists of four chapters. In the theoretical part, spanning the first three chapters, secondary sources were used to conduct literature studies on the basis of which conclusions have been formulated. The empirical part, presented in the last, fourth chapter, is a report on the author's own research conducted and completed in July 2018. On the basis of the data collected on the generation number and the number of people holding ownership in the analyzed family businesses, and the number of children holding positions in management and supervisory bodies, it may be observed that seniors in the analyzed entities are much more likely to include the offspring in the company's activities, but do not transfer the ownership to them. The results of the statistical tests carried out have shown the lack of dependence between the concentration of family ownership and the succession of management functions. This means that including offspring into the company's bodies is not dependent on the scope of the family ownership. At the same time, the analysis of the age of the seniors and the involvement of his their children in the company's activity may lead to a conclusion that the succession of management functions, as measured by the involvement of children in company bodies, is determined by the seniors’ age. Therefore, the older the senior, the more involvement of offspring in the company's bodies has been noted. Also, the relationship between the period of holding the position of chief executive officer (CEO) by the senior and the generational transfer of the management functions has been analyzed. Statistical tests have been performed to determine the correlation between the senior age and the succession of the ownership. The results suggest that in companies where the senior is older, the children are allotted more shares. However, the author’s findings also indicate that there is no relation between the period of holding the position of senior chief executive officer (CEO) and the succession of ownership. The results of the qualitative research made it possible to establish certain common features that occur in the case of family businesses that have started the succession process. These features create a specific canon of behavior of family businesses included in the study on succession.

Świadomość rodząca obrazy. Studia z antropologii literatury

Gilbert Durand, a French anthropologist of imagination and co-founder of the world’s first Centre for Research into the Imaginary (Centre de Recherche sur l’Imaginaire – CRI), established in 1966 at the University of Grenoble, is known primarily as the author of the work Les structures anthropologiques de l’imaginaire, first published in 1960. Academic interest in the theory of anthropological structures of imagination has been evidenced by theeleven reissues of the book in France, its translation into four foreign languages (Spanish, Italian, Romanian and English), and the creation of almost fifty Centres for Research into the Imaginary, which remain in cooperation with the parent centre in Grenoble and serve to creatively develop Durand's methodology. Research in this field has evolved dynamically and is the core focus of the hermeneutic school known as imaginaire, founded by Gaston Bachelard and developed by Gilbert Durand and his successors (the so-called School of Grenoble). This is referred to in the history of the humanities as the Great Change or New Anthropology.Gilbert Durand essays to describe man’s symbolic universe by extracting universal and timeless symbolic forms. He tries, by studying the transformation of images, to uncover the sources of imagination – eternally recurring elements which transcend both time and cultural differences. This study is also an attempt at an anthropological reading of a selection of the 20th-century Polish literary texts, all of which have already been interpreted by researchers on numerous occasions. Gaston Bachelard's theory of the intercultural “unity of imagination” and Gilbert Durand’s theory of the anthropological structures of imagination as well as his concept of cultural pluralism allow the artist to be seen as an imaginary phenomenon, the Dreaming Cogito, the Imagining Consciousness. The study contained in this monograph is intended to show, on the basis of the selected artistic texts, the interpretative potential of Bachelard-Durandian anthropology when applied to the hermeneutics of literary work.

Towards the Modern Theory of Motion. Oxford Calculators and the new interpretation of Aristotle

The problem of the continuity of science from the medieval to the modern times of the 17th century, when Galileo and Newton developed the correct theory of mechanics, occupied historians of science from the beginning of the 20th century. Some believe that the fourteenth-century English scholars who created the School of Oxford Calculators and their French and Italian followers. with their solutions, laid the foundations for the development of modern physics. Others believe that medieval natural philosophy made no contribution to the development of modern science. The presented book is a voice in this discussion and an attempt to answer the question about the continuity of science. Considering how much has been discovered, edited and written about the Oxford Calculators, the book reviews and compares the results of our research with works of the other historians’ research into the intellectual heritage of these 14th century English thinkers in order to enrich and update the views on the Oxford Calculators’ natural philosophy in perhaps its most fundamental aspect – at least from the point of view of Aristotle’s philosophy – namely the subject of “science of local motion.”The discussion are mostly focused on topics that were important to medieval thinkers and not those that could be most interesting from the modern point of view, and the research are directed on the Oxford Calculators’ tradition in science toward a prospecting of the innovative character of their teaching, and here first of all against the background of Aristotelian theories, and then the subsequent search for possible innovations which could have inspired early modern scientists.As the conclusions of the research on the theories of Oxford calculators are still formulated mainly on the basis of analyzes of incomplete printed texts, the critical editions of Latin texts are offered. These are not only the most famous Calculators’ works, such as William Heytesbury’s De tribus praedicamentis: de motu locali or John Dumbleton’s Part III of the Summa logicae et philosophiae naturalis, but also of a hither to unknown work by Richard Kilvington, i.e., his question on local motion and the question on local motion written by the anonymous author of the treatise De sex inconvenientibus.

Tradycyjny a nowoczesny sposób budowania zaufania klientów do banku na przykladzie mBanku

Marketing is an area that particularly affects consumer marketing decisions, especially through the use of instruments such as advertisement and gamification. Advertisements are traditional tools for shaping relationships with consumers, while gamification represents a modern and even innovative trend of marketing communication. In order to obtain knowledge about the impact of advertisement and gamification on consumer confidence in mBank, both a quantitative method (an experiment) and a qualitative method (an analysis of the contents of the selected advertisements and mGra) have been used. The choice of these methods seems to be the most appropriate one from the point of view of the research problem, since the quantitative approach allowed the author to explain the studied phenomenon, while the qualitative approach contributed to its understanding.

Transport morski kontenerów. Rola i znaczenie intermodalnych terminali przeładunkowych

Maritime container terminals are currently of key importance in the global transport network. However, if container sea freight is taken into account, there are still numerous scientific areas that require detailed research, especially when it comes to the optimization of organizational and technological processes of maritime container reloading and storage bases. The book is an attempt to comprehensively examine processes related to the shipment and handling of containers transported by sea. It also presents the results of multi-criteria analysis (AHP and PROMETHEE II) aimed at assessing the competitive potential of Polish container terminals in the Baltic Sea Region.

The publication focuses in particular on the essence of sustainable development, issues related to the assessment of financial security of an enterprise and its impact on the sustainable development of economic entities. The work consists of four substantive and methodological chapters in which the main emphasis was put on theoretical topics related to development and financial security, and an empirical chapter where an attempt was made to assess the impact of financial security on the sustainable development of Polish enterprises. Chapter I – Enterprise Development – Selected Theoretical Aspects discusses the basic issues of enterprise development, its conditions, stages and strategies. Chapter II – The Essence of Sustainable Development of Enterprises covers topics related to sustainable development of enterprises, sustainable entrepreneurship, reporting and measuring sustainable development as well as factors determining its level. Chapter III – Financial Security of Enterprises – Selected Theoretical Problems presents theoretical problems linked to economic security, the nature and dimensions of financial security, threats to its level, financial security management and the relationship between sustainable development and financial security. Chapter IV – Indicator Assessment of the Financial Security of an Enterprise contains a discussion of selected theoretical aspects related to the role of financial statements in the assessment of financial security, determining the importance of using the accrual and cash accounting approach and indicator verification of its level. Chapter V – Sustainable Development and Financial Security of Enterprises – Evaluation presents the results of a study on Polish enterprises and the impact of the level of financial security on their sustainable development. The work is a fragment of a broad, complex and subject to constant evaluation of the issues of business activity in the era of globalization as well as the changes in the approach to environmental protection and social issues. The authors attempted to discuss a matter of particular importance from the point of view of economics and finance. The study can serve as a compendium of knowledge regarding sustainable development and financial security of enterprises. The publication’s audience are first of all students of economics and environmental protection, as well as all those interested in the discussed issues who want to acquire basic knowledge about sustainable development of enterprises and financial security.
