Summary/Abstract: This paper reviews the Bulgarian external trade dynamics in the context of the Bulgarian membership in the EU. The author reviews empirical data confirming that the Bulgarian economy becomes more open after the country’s accession to the EU. For the period between 2007-2016 there is stable growth in the export volume – if export-to-GDP ratio was 40% for the year of 2006, few years later moves up to 50-53% (2012-2016). This leads us to the conclusion that the national economy is rather open and dependent on the international markets where more than half of the national product is being exported.
