THE LINGUISTIC PICTURE OF THE WORLD IN DIACHRONY AND HISTORICAL LEXICOGRAPHY: SEVERAL CROSSING POINTS

Summary/Abstract: The article considers the theoretical basis of reconstruction of the linguistic picture of the world in their connection with the practical aspects of historical lexicography. The author focuses on the pe-riod of the 16th – first half of the 17th century, the lexicographic processing of which continues in Lviv scientific center – Ukrainian Language Department, Ivan Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies National Academy of Science of Ukraine. The study of the linguistic picture of the world of Ukrainians in diachrony will make it possible to identify the peculiarities of worldview, the main conceptual forms of national mentality; empha-sizes the phenomenon of semantic syncretism and outlines models of development of lexical mean-ings; will make it possible to trace how the evolution of perception of time, space, values, etc. was reflected in language. The combination of these factors will contribute to a complete and high-qual-ity lexicographic description of the lexicon of a particular historical period.
