Summary/Abstract: Czech has been taught at the University of Santiago de Compostela in the Modern Language Center (formerly the Language Institute) since 1988. In fact, the first Czech instructor and the guarantor of the subject is the director of the Modern Language Center: Kateřina Vlasáková. There has been great interest in Czech language from the academic community and the general public since it was very first offered. From the start, the courses have been conducted in an interactive way; they also acquaint students with Czech culture as well as the language. Courses for beginners are the ones offered most. Surveys show that between 1988 and 2014, 10 to 30 students would be enrolled in Czech courses. The motivation behind enrolling in Czech language courses were: an interest in Slavic languages; interest in Czech history; and, above all, academic stays in the Czech Republic as part of their studies. Conversation classes for more advanced students are offered individually. Thanks to the ERASMUS program, students from the Czech Republic teach Czech in Santiago de Compostela. Despite the situation surrounding the pandemic, Czech language courses have been on offer this year. Besides the University of Santiago de Compostela, Czech is also taught at the University of Madrid, the Czech school in Madrid, and at the University of Granada.
