Summary/Abstract: Deterrence had developed in the Cold War period and was based on the use of nuclear and strategic conventional weapons. Realist security conception in international relations have resulted in the development of the classical deterrence theory in the context of the rational decision-making mechanism and the linear escalation model. The explanatory power of the theory was relatively higher in the Cold War period, but remained insufficient after the Cold War. The characteristics of 21. Century strategic environment which hybridized in terms of the actors, topics, means and strategies require new perspectives. In this article, the necessity of a non-linear deterrence is discussed and its main points are outlined.
