Summary/Abstract: The earliest evidence of vine-growing comes from Transcaucasia and from the Near East. The vine-growing was gradually spreading to Europe since the 2nd millennium. Its spread was partially caused by the expansion of the Roman Empire to the West and Central Europe. However, to Bohemia and Moravia the vine-growing did not get until the 9th century. In Bohemia the origins of vine-growing were probably related to the contacts with Franconian environment. Přemyslids contributed to its spreading.
