Summary/Abstract: It is generally assumed, given the many references to Ricardo in The Capital, that Ricardo is of the greatest importance to Marx's ideas and Marx's critique of classical economics.The purpose of this text is to show that Marx's ideas can be traced back to the early ideas of Adam Smith and to the rarely considered Ricardian socialists.
