Summary/Abstract: The paper summarizes the results of a study carried out among 300 (fifth and eighth grade) Hungarian elementary school students studying in their native language in eight towns in Vojvodina. The results show that the respondents consider their own dialect appealing, they like it, they are used to it, and in their towns they gladly and often speak it in informal situations. In addition to all this, a dialect is also an expression of local awareness of identity.
