Summary/Abstract: The Second World War and the siege of Budapest by Soviet and Romanian troops at the end of 1944 put the state administration and Hungarian society to the test. The Hungarian capital did not have public food stocks to provide food for its inhabitants, so the population was on the verge of starvation. In this study I will examine supply issues during the siege and the transition period that followed. The issue of ensuring public supply has been addressed by the authorities in three ways. The first aspect is to ensure the continuity of agricultural production and the distribution of food to the population and the army through the agricultural harvesting system. The second aspect aims to regulate the centralization of trade and trafficking in goods, and the third, to limit agricultural consumption by controlling the centralized state apparatus and by introducing the rationalization system. During the writing of my study, I used not only the sources of the archives, but I considered it important to include various journals, memoirs, as well as articles published in the press.
