Summary/Abstract: This text endeavours to take a closer look at the sources of melancholy in the novel by László Krasznahorkai: The Melancholy of Resistance, by presenting historical and philosophical contexts, while the interpretation key involves categories of harmony and entropy. From a description of the main protagonists of the story and its adaptation – Béla Tarr’s film: Werckmeister’s Harmonies – there emerges a more expansive image of the condition of a person suffering from melancholy.
