Surnames of Wives and Daughters in 19th Century Anthroponymy of the Borderland Between Mazovia and Podlasie Region (on the Basis of Stoczek Parish)

Summary/Abstract: This article is to present the surnames of wives and daughters that were registered in the 19th century certificate registers in the parish of Stoczek a town located in the borderland between Mazovia and Podlasie region. There can be found forms of women’s surnames formed from their identical men’s equivalents by means of paradigm derivation, as well as surnames formed by means of suffixation. The article also takes into particular consideration patronyms and marytonyms, which are certified by administrative documents, manners of creation of these structures as well as the reasons for their appearances in the 19th century onomastic system. The aim of the article is to present the role of such fixed and inherited forms in the processes of surname formation and their place in the anthroponymy of the borderland between Mazovia and Podlasie region.
