Summary/Abstract: This text is an exegesis of the poem „Simon of Cyrene” by Valeriu Anania. Poet, but also a theologian truly living the biblical drama, Valeriu Anania depicts Simon of Cyrene, not as one of the possible„brave” supporters on their shoulders (figuratively) of the Cross of Christ, but as the only real one,„chosen” from the crowd that, on Palm Sunday, had acclaimed Him, and, a few days later, while on the way to His crucifixion at Golgotha, blamed the Teacher who had done only good and was now, in a blatant injustice, the „scapegoat” for their eternal sins. A dramatic poet par excellence, Valeriu Anania puts Simon of Cyrene in an exponential role, respectively in a dialogical instance after what happened on the road to Golgotha, the interlocutor – silent – being none other than the One who was helped, crucified, then risen from the dead and ascended to heaven. In the poetic hypostasis of this historical (and artistic) character, we could read „between the lines” a kind of lyrical synthesis of the force lines from the Arghezi’s psalms.
