Hugo de Ana’s Performances at Sofia Opera House. Problems of Directing

Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the directorial interpretations by Argentinean director and set designer Hugo de Ana of the operas Aida, Samson and Delilahand Norma, performed on the stage of Sofia Opera House, as compared with the directorial and scenographic solutions of Plamen Kartaloff’s Aida; Hristo Popov, Nikolay Vekov’s Samson and Delilah and Nikolay Nikolov’s Norma. Without offering a particular model for rendering, the author analyses the multilayered ideas of these renditions and the extent to which they correspond to the original intentions of the composers.
