Summary/Abstract: The system of Christian moral guidelines is based on the Ten Commandments and is generally unvarying. A study of homiletic works affords a closer look at different aspects of everyday life and the immediate problems of the Christians in the Transcarpathian region. It is particularly at Sunday and festive sermons that priests drew the attention of the congregation to events and incidents that were relevant to the community, offered parishioners an assessment of their deeds as well as an example to follow. Homily collections are virtually the only reliable historical sources that document the attitude of ordinary people to certain social events on a personal and national scale. This paper studies traditional Christian values as reflected in a Cyrillic manuscript known as the Uglian Didactical Gospel, which originated and circulated in the territory of the former Diocese of Mukachevo.
