Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with selected toponyms from the Book of Exodus in a wide range of sources from the 12th to the 16th centuries – books of paroemias, full copies of the Book of Exodus, triodia and menaia in comparison with Septuaginta. The analysis of the variant readings shows that the toponyms can be quite important for the text history of the Bible books. Most of the discussed readings in the Slavic manuscript tradition of the Book of Exodus are dependent on variants in different Greek manuscripts which served as protographs of the liturgical and non-liturgical translations, respectively, as well as of the later Athonite redaction. Other variants can be explained with the centuries-old manuscript tradition of the Book of Exodus, the mutual influence between different translations and redactions, non-systematic comparison with other Greek sources, as well as with misunderstanding of the toponyms from the copyists.
