Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the basic aspects of the virtue concept in the anthropological thought of St. John Chrysostom. The work is focused, above all, on underscoring fundamental truth of the full and authentic Chrysostom’s Orthodox anthropology and spirituality. The doctrine of Chrysostom is not only exhausted by morality, virtue, habitus or habitual “imitation” of Christ, as is most commonly represented in the West. Chrysostom’s anthropological orientation makes clear that every virtue, every true imitation and service to God makes a man appropriate for union with God. However, true and genuine union with God is achieved only through the synergy of true faith and true way of life in Christ (= in the Body of Christ, in the Church), in the communion of the grace of God with the Holy Spirit. Chrysostom emphasizes that true Christian anthropological maximalism is made by the Holy Spirit as a graceful union and communal living in the love and freedom of every true believer in Christ, with the Living and True God. Thus, Chrysostom clearly underlines the virtuous-ascetic-spiritual character of his Christ-centered anthropological thought.
