Summary/Abstract: The attempt to hermeneutically analyze Nikolay Gogol’s Viy has been taken up in the article. In the capacity of interpreting, the allusion to the image of the philosopher P. Chadayev was used. It enabled to read the story as an imaginary dialogue - a duel both with Chadayev and philosophy as a form of artistic works.
