Summary/Abstract: For over two and a half decades the Republic of Moldova is facing an internal conflict, „frozen” due to Russia’s geostrategic interest in maintaining control over a large portion of the former Soviet Union. This situation was and is possible through preparation the decisive help of the Soviet, later Russian, politico-military structure (since 1989-1990), the secession of the Moldavian territory left of the Dniester river, Transnistria. The study is meant to present the military capabilities of the two belligerent sides during the „military phase”of the moldavian-transnistrian conflict (March-July 1992), as well as the decisions that lead to the Agreementsigned in the summer of 1992.
