Summary/Abstract: The article presents the civil service in Bosnia and Herzegovina - at all the authority levels, in the European Union, and in some of the European Union members. The author places civil service in the context of the accession criteria for the European Union membership, comparing it to the principles of the European administrative space. In the end, the author draws certain conclusions about the possibilities and modes of establishing the civil service that could reach European standards and be able to accept and implement the acquis. The author indicates potential solutions to establishing effective, professional and desirable civil service in Bosnia and Herzegovina, from the lowest to the highest authority level.
