Summary/Abstract: Existentialism, which is a 20th century movement, takes person from being any entity and accepts him/her as individual. It gives the right to choose to every individual. With this choice, the thinkers put forward some basic thoughts. In this study, the views in the context of self and other of Jean Paul Sartre (1905- 1980) and Albert Camus (1913-1960) who are the most influential philosophers of their period, will be examined based on his works. The main problem of this article is self and other. Camus and Sartre have alienated the individual by imprisoning him on his own loneliness. However, it should not be forgotten that man is much more than just an egoistic entity who pursues interest, and that it is completed by the other and finds its meaning. Although existentialism seems to be a trend of the 20th century, its roots go to Socrates (469-399 BC) and from there to philosophers such as Augustinus (354-430 AD), Pascal (1623-1662), Kierkegaard (1815-1855) and Edmund Husserl (1859-1938) and so it has a background in the history of philosophy due to some of the themes we encounter. The question of self and other constitutes an important theme of ethical debate. Perspectives of both philosophers about the meaning of life are subject of review. There is the absurdity of life based on their answer to the meaning of life. Absurd; it means different for Camus and Sartre. Self and other in the nonsense is another expression of trying to understand of person. Sartre, while dealing with the problem of otherness due to the act of gaze; Camus examines the problem of solidarity achieved by rebellion.
