Metaphorical expressions: a case of the newspaper titles

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyse the titles of metaphorical content in the daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija from July 1st to 31st in 2014. The main characteristics of the journalistic style and the three different ways of studying metaphor, which represent the base for the analyses of figurativ meaning present in the newspaper titles, are introduced. The corpus of the extracted titles is divided on the basis of the content in order to conclude the prevailing type. Metaphors are classified and analysed on the basis of grammatical, semantic and conceptual features in order to determine the frequency of particular categories. Finally, the collected data are graphically represented and commented.
