Summary/Abstract: This study aims to recreate some aspects of the manner in which the court society crystallized and organized itself during the long reign of Constantin Brâncoveanu. We examine the most significant symbolic moments that translate and develop the most significant symbolic moments of the prince and his court that mark princely power and princely authority: the coronation, the habitat and dress, the symbolic gestures performed by the prince in the exercise of power and authority, but also others intended to enhance the grandeur and magnificence of princely power, as well as the personal moments in the life of the prince and of his family (weddings, walks, etc). All these moments evidence that there was in C. Brâncoveanu’s Wallachia a crystallized court society with a distinct physiognomy, comparable to that of European courts, but also one where oriental traits produced by the relationship with the Ottoman Porte are also discernible.
