Summary/Abstract: The romantic short story Adélaïde et Théodore [Adelaide and Theodore] by Madame de Staël is translated into Romanian for the first time in these pages. It is one of the early literary works of the theorist of French Romanticism. I have chosen a fragment that illustrates the construction of the central characters, female and male, who give the title of the short story. My selection also aims to bring to light an element of suspense in the storytelling with a view to arousing the readers’ interest both in this study and in its follow-up, to be published in the next issue of the journal.
