Summary/Abstract: The Christian concept of freedom, based on Revelation, remains unchanged. Next to it, however, there are other visions and various proposals of realizing it in life and in action. Therefore, the biblical message of freedom must be read in a constantly new, changing context. Today, this context is marked by such phenomena as: the demand an absolute autonomy, detachment of freedom from truth and goodness, from God, who in fact is its source − on the one hand, and determinism − on the other. The Bible knows many of these phenomena. Therefore, it is worthwhile to read its message continually, in order to look for answers to contemporary trends: the search for freedom and the escape from it.
