System of Financial Support for Innovative Startups

Summary/Abstract: The issue of the article is a part of discussion on the nature, development and innovativeness of start-ups. The aim was to show the problem of external financing of innovative projects and development of such companies. It has been realized in two ways. First, to illustrate a general problem a critical analysis of literature was employed. Second, the study was conducted in the form of direct interview with a group of owners of start-ups, who have received a grant from the EU funds under the Operational Program Innovative Economy Measure 8.1. Conclusions resulting from the analysis indicate that startups are focused primarily on self-financing, and obtaining of external funding is often subject to restrictions, which actually inhibit or prevent the transition to the next stage of development.
