The Role of Digitalization in Banking Services

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the process of digitalization, which is takingplace in the European banking sector. The threats and difficulties resulting from this process for traditional banking are presented. The process of digitalization in banking was considered, and barriers identified in its way were the unavoidable process and benefits for banks resulting from its application. The role of introducing the PSD2 Directive and the consequences of this for the banking sector were presented. An attempt was made to verify and evaluate the changes, opportunities and threats resulting from the implementation of digitization and the PSD2 Directive for the citizen.
