Summary/Abstract: Cardiovascular atherosclerotic disorders still remain the leading cause of death worldwide as well as in Poland. The cause of atherosclerosis has not been precisely defined. Only risk factors, whose causative role in atherosclerosis is not certain, have been identified. Parodontal diseases are regarded to be chronic inflammatory process and therefore may play significant role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Effective treatment of periodontal disorders is associated with retardation of inflammation, improvement of endothelium function and the fall in the number of cardiovascular diseases. If parodontal disorders are really causative factors of atherosclerosis, the health care system should pay more attention on dental service to prevent early “number one” killer – cardiovascular disorders. Significant changes in health care system are needed to make dental control and dental treatment available more easily for wider part of the society
