Summary/Abstract: Research data on the afforestation of Seinai town in Poland is presented in the paper. The theoretical fundamentals of the creation of the afforestation system in small towns are analysed. The inventory data on trees growing in the public gardens of the town is provided. Out – of – town forests bordering the town have been investigated and their relation with the forestations system has been estimated. It is stated that there are spacious green plantations (even three public gardens) in Seinai, especially in its central part, but they are not connected with the out – of – town forests in a united sistem. Proposals to create the afforestation system in the town are put forward. Special attention is given to the formation of the green belt along the Marycha River. Two more green zones with the green belts branching off from the green belt along the Marycha River have been designed. Our proposals on the formation of the afforestation system can be used in the projects of perspective planning of Lithuanian towns. The following acclimatized trees from other countries can be added to the local tree kinds dominating in the green zones: Acer plantanoides ’Crimson King’, Alnus glutinosa ‘Aurea’, Carpinus betulus ‘Fastigiata’, Crateagus x media ‘Paul’s Scarlet’, Quercus rubra ‘Aurea’, Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Plumosa Aurea’, Picea glauca ‘Caerulea’, Pseudotsuga menziesii var caesia.
