Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to distinguish the features of access to folklore within the framework of vocal nonacademic music making, which involves solving the problem of interpretation of the musical source and the specificity of the combination of different singing manners. The methodology of the study consists of the use of a systematic approach and an analytical method to distinguish the modern tendencies of pop vocal performances. Scientific novelty consists in the analysis of peculiarities of the appeal to folklore in the creative activity of pop vocalists. It is emphasized on their didactic-educational and aesthetic-artistic significance. Conclusions. The specifics of request to folklore in pop vocal performances are considered. The role of folk material is critical in contemporary socio-cultural conditions. It is the bearer of musical uniqueness of ethnic cultures, which plays an essential role during the spread of globalization processes in the world. In a variety of shows and concert programs aimed at popularizing vocal skills, the use of folk material is a source of inspiration, a kind of singer's test, because it requires the appropriate psychological setting, the ability to create an interesting interpretive version and intonational accuracy, since lyrical songs are often performed a capella. The inclusion of folk songs in the repertoire of pop singers is an actual trend that will not lose its significance in the future perspective of the development of musical culture.
