Summary/Abstract: Until recently rhyme has been formally analyzed only as a component of meter and composition. Apparently traditional notions used in poetics to characterize the sound texture of the verse can to a certain extent be formalized. Phonological analysis helps to formulate such analogues for the "exactness" and "completeness' of the rhyme. The quantitative evaluation of these features is thereby made possible. With these aims in view the notion of the phonological distance between 'allorhymes' is used.
