Summary/Abstract: Aim of investigation. The paper Doina Ruști’s The Phanariote Manuscript – a Bildungsroman from Balkans proposes to examine the story of Ioanis Milikopu becomes the story of Leun and the story of Kiros, changing complex contexts of the same destiny. Bucharest is a place and a central reality having the force of metamorphosis for the imaginary by name, in a mixture of Balkan nations, with some French and Russian influences. The method of this research. The ways to analyze it is in the light of literary onomastics and symbolist synesthesy, an aspect of the novel The Phanariote Manuscript by the Romanian author Doina Ruști: 1. intra-textual aspect of a broader context of the name, the role of the name in the re-signifying process, this fact shall be entered in a general and universal tradition, and in a customized tradition also, concerning the history of the Romanian literature; 2. urban legends in a Phanariote Bucharest, cosmopolite, re-composed especially by a combination of sensations, that facilitates the exit from the historical time and entry in mythical time.
