Image and word: their partnership as an infinite set

Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the ways in which the visual representation partners with the verbal one. Three aspects of this partnership are discussed: first, how the visual and the verbal interpret each other; second, what functions the visual ingredient has in verbal texts, and how the verbal element itself creates an image. The third aspect comments on different linguistic structures – words, expressions, sentences, (parts of) texts – and shows how they facilitate visual thinking. The resulting visual complexes are connected not only with the understanding of what is said, but also with its effectual power.
