Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the image of a Pole on the basis of Russian texts of the era of conflict between the 17th and the 20th c. The texts analyzed are documents of the Russian authorities or ones authored by people of convergent views and opinions. A conclusion is drawn that the documents are formative of the attitude of Russians towards Poles, the latter being treated as enemies. The documents allude in large measure to the stereotype of a Pole, already existing in common consciousness. They also make use of images of other enemies, entrenched in texts and associated with other nations, states and political orientations.
